Bluegrass king Ralph Stanley has endorsed Barack Obama.

He's cut a radio ad that is running all over SW Virginia.

McCain's done.

Ummm, I dunno about the "done" thing if you're counting on Stanley's endorsement. I think he also endorsed Kerry in 2004.

McCain is finished. But

McCain is finished. But OBAMA fucked us over just the same with the bailout vote. I have supported him for a long time, even over Clinton. I've read his books and agree with his views but when it comes time to represent, he sides with the corporations.

VOTE THIRD PARTY.

IT IS TIME FOR THE NEW AMERICAN REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!

IT IS TIME FOR THE NEW AMERICAN REVOLUTION

That's true, but Presidential elections are not the venue for revolution. A good first step would be the House voting to impeach Cheney on Nov 5.

Ralph Stanley speaks to the

Ralph Stanley speaks to the exact demo that votes for McCain -- old, white, lower middle class and male. He also represents the Democratic demographic that didn't vote for Barack in the primary. This is a very important endorsement in SW Va and could be very effective in NC, too. Winning these two states would pretty much ensure an Obama victory.

There are few Americans who have any idea as to who this person is and any claim of how much power he holds with an endorsement is blinded to reality. How many Americans, aggregate wise, listen to Bluegrass? Get a grip and yes, in 2004, he endorsed Kerry and when the totals came in Bush won more votes than Kerry and the entire 3rd Party spectrum combined, including winning 85% of all counties in the USA. The only story from that is how Bush could blow the ultimate in political capital in the time since 2004.

Ralph Stanley's a Democrat

Ralph Stanley's a Democrat and a union man, and as such is in a minority in his home region. But he's enormously popular and respected across Appalachia.

The population of Virginia is changing. It's not a red state any more.

The northern 'burbs are becoming increasingly blue, and all Obama's got to do is peel off a few votes down in the mountains and he's won. The differences between Now (2008) and Then (2004) are numerous and compelling, and not the least of them is the fact that Obama is a better candidate with a superior campaign and learned some lessons from what happened to Kerry (and Gore).

I'm not convinced this is all that meaningful.

How long has country music icon Willie Nelson been endorsing Democrats?
