"This bill does nothing for the Addie Polks of the world," Kucinich said after telling her story. "This bill fails to address the fact that millions of homeowners are facing foreclosure, are facing the loss of their home. This bill will take care of Wall Street, and the market may go up for a few days, but democracy is going downhill."

How many folks in our area are in similar circumstances?

That story is just too sad.

That story is just too sad. I can't imagine being the police officer that was dispatched to evict a 90 year old woman.

The city of Akron has a population of over 207, 000 and the metro area has nearly 700,000.

Wonder what they were going to do with her. Leave her on the street? Take her to a shelter?

I hope the police, business, and communities can work together to prevent this from happening in the future. Maybe they need to dispatch Social Workers first.

Ever see Michael Moore's "Roger and Me"? There are some amazing eviction scenes.

Here's a hero in the middle of the mortgage mess

This man deserves a lot of credit for standing up for the victims of this mortgage meltdown. There are times when "following orders" feels immoral and that's when honest men stand tall and just say--no.

"Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said he understood he was flouting the law in refusing to have deputies carry out the rising number of eviction requests, but mortgage holders must be accountable.

"These mortgage companies only see pieces of paper, not people, and don't care who's in the building," Dart said.

Foreclosure on 83-year-old woman...

This ticks me off. It's going to take the industry a long time to live down what a lot of them have done to people. A new defensive mentality I assume has evolved when dealing with developer/real estate/mortgage folks. I realize there are some good folks in that business. But they are going to have to prove it.

It would be interesting...

For a local reporter to interview local bank officials to see what they are doing to modify any loans they still hold.
