Bicycling boom worldwide

"Commuters in Northern Europe have been lured out of their cars by bike lanes, secure bike parking and easy access to mass transportation."
Some good inroads have been made in Knoxville with regards to biking. The secure bike parking would be another helpful component. I had a bike stolen years ago. There wasn't a convenient place to secure my bike around the fast food restaurant I stopped at and I lazily did not find an alternative. My bike was gone within the 3 minutes I had my back turned.
"London has emerged as Exhibit A for the quick infrastructure fix that gets commuters out of cars."

In addition to the storage issue, this highlights another major problem in Knoxville:
There is now an integrated system of safe bicycling routes in most cities in all three countries. It allows cyclists to go almost everywhere on paths that are separated from automobiles and in "traffic-calmed" neighborhoods.
If you want to ride from West Knoxville (beyond West Town) to downtown, you've either got to take a high-traffic, no-shoulder road or a windy, inconvenient route.

I'd rather be cycling.
