What with all the dire news and violence floating about the air waves, with all the awful images and forecasts of a world going to hell faster than anyone had ever imagined, nothing soothes the soul or makes me breath deeper than lavishing my pets with lots of love. Krishna the Golden has recently met Karma her new sister, and she seems to like her a lot. Itchiban the cat we share our house and garden with isn't so sure. No matter how bleak things look, my pets always cheer me up and make me feel loved.

Isn't it wonderful how they

Isn't it wonderful how they greet you with such love and enthusiasm when you come in the door? There is no difference between a short trip to the mailbox or a month-long journey to the other side of the planet.

My neighbor jogs at Victor Ashe Park regularly and usually calls me when he leaves work to see if Gino and I want to meet him there for a walk. Any time the phone rings at or near 3:30 PM, Gino nuzzles his collar and leash. As soon as he is "dressed" he fastens himself to me, Velcro-like, as I put on my walking shoes.

On those rare occasions that I have to leave the house without him his cries are heartrending.

Yes. I only hope we keep the Pupster as happy as she keeps us.

Carole, your little Karma

Carole, your little Karma looks like a picture postcard. Gosh golly he's darn cute. I'm glad Krishna has a buddy. Itchi will be Itchi, I'm afraid.

RufusKitty is my absolute delight. He greets me at the door, and he "demands" cuddles and pets. He's just goofy wonderful. I got my first cat when I was 4 years old. I hadn't had a pet for a while when RufusK came along. I remember my friend saying, "It's about time you got a cat. You've been without one too long."

I've had two dogs in my life, both at the insistence of my brother. I might have another one someday, but in the meantime, I'm all for kitty lovin'.

Nab beagle pups in pairs!

We have two new additions to our family in the last couple of weeks...

First, we lucked up on Lilly (a "90%" beagle pup, the vet said) when she was six weeks old. We'd had her all of three or four days when the kids read in their Baron's guide that we should really consider owning a *pair* of beagles, as they're pack dogs.

We found Sam (from a different, "purebred," litter) the very next day.

The Baron's guide was right--those two were instant friends. They're both now eight weeks old, lickin' all over us and one another, and spoonin' in their doggie bed.

We bi-ped Shepherds are having to step over a baby gate up in the kitchen doorway, and we're mopping up a few puddles, but what a delight they are! And we're losing lazy hours outside under a tree, just watching them play. Awww!
