President Bush lifted an executive ban signed by his father in 1990 to prohibit offshore drilling.
Congress has a separate ban on offshore drilling. Aren't we lucky Democrats are in control of Congress?
Politics at its finest. Will Congress cave as they have with so many things?

Let's hope they cave,
Let's hope they cave, Bizgrrl. What is wrong with offshore drilling? Once we get the crude, what's wrong with increasing our refining capacity while we seek alternative sources of fuel? What's wrong with nuclear energy?
Let's hope Jesse gets to all the Dems and do what he threatened to do to Obama. The way they caved on FISA after beating their chests for so long, maybe he already did..........
Since you love nuclear energy so much...
you won't mind if we bury the nuclear waste in your backyard right? It would be so much more efficient for them to haul it to your house than to ship it across the U.S. to Yucca Mountain.
And why not increase our refining capacity now? Surely the oil companies can see that in ten years time when the first of those new offshore or ANWR fields starts producing reliably they will need it. (Don't worry about your costs for fuel and electricity and other things that will keep rising for the next ten years while they bring those fields up to production though, we'll all be stinkin' rich when they come in...oh darn, that's right...we don't own those fields or the companies that will make the profits...oh well) Why drill now, and then try to play catch up when they are having to store massive quantities of oil because the infrastructure is still not there? Oh, that's right, because the oil companies would have to cut into their profits to make capital investments in infrastructure, unless they can get another Republican in office to give them massive tax breaks and government subsidies to build said refineries. Not that ANY of the so-called oil reserves are actually there...for all we know right now, none of those prospective fields will produce one drop of oil for sure.
But you go on and dream your little dream of free-flowing rivers of oil from the sea and Alaska...meanwhile try to not get in the way as the rest of us push on towards creating energy sources that do not rely on other countries, nor that pose the serious risk of damaging the marine environment so badly that we no longer can eat the fish of the sea which provide us with much of our food nowadays. You didn't really like lobster dinners all that much anyways did ya?

Nah. That's why God made Nevada.
well hot damn
Didn't know W had it in him. Happy drilling!
I'm afraid offshore and ANWR
I'm afraid offshore and ANWR drilling is most likely inevetible*.
You can talk for 30 years about the need for a rational energy policy, alternative energy sources, new transportation technology, transportation planning, CAFE standards, clean power generation, conservation, the antiquated power grid, emission controls, climate change, etc. etc. until you are blue in the face.
$4 gas, now THAT'S something folks understand.
All that other stuff is just a bunch of lies and whining by mentally defective liberals. A quick fix is what people want. Despite the fact that the oil won't come up for 10 years and then it will be sold into the international markets. But that will be a moot point (or "mute" as the Fox Limbaugh informed majority prefers) if 10 years from now we're in Mad Max meltdown.
Say, how long before ADM comes up with a brilliant plan to water our crops with Gatorade?
(*P.S. And what's even sadder is that the spineless Democrats in Congress won't negotiate anything in return.)
Talidapali, I agree 100%
Talidapali, I agree 100% with the your assertion that we need to aggressively seek alternative sources of energy, that we need energy independence and that we should do nothing to harm the environment. The Libs think they have a corner on these points. I believe it's quite possible to do all these things while we turn up flow of domestic oil production and refining.
Who says 10 years before we start to see any of the off shore or ANWAR crude? That's one of the bigger Liberal myths. We could start seeing it in as little as 12 - 15 months, more likely 2 - 3 years. But we must increase our refining capacity.
Finally, a word about nuclear -- this is an alternative source NOW! It's very efficient and doesn't put fossil fuel pollution into the atmosphere. Other countries are far ahead of us in this area.
Who says 10 years before we
The source of that "liberal myth" is Bush's own Department of Energy:

I'm calling you out
Care to substantiate this bullshit? Did Rush tell you so? Come on, some links to independent authoritative sources will do. Or is that another "Wingnut BS Dittohead GOP myth"? (wow, that name calling works both ways!)

Speaking of Bush v Bush staying the "course"
Is it true that W is golfing again, after claiming to give it up as a sacrifice to the troops*?
I guess he was for golf before he was against it, before he was for it again!!!! I'm sure it's at least better than attending a church that has a nutty pastor!!
Yea, Rush told me. Awesome
Yea, Rush told me. Awesome analysis, Gonzo.
Well
It sure sounds like it and you do use ALL the ditto head memes and talking points. And where else but there or Free Republic are you gonna get such inaccurate drivel?
Come on and validate with links to reputable independent sources.
And since you feel so free to throw around labels on people as derogatory jabs I was quite sure you wouldn't mind someone else doing the same to you.
I realize I've gotten down in the gutter with you conversationally but I'm down here with you to chastise and encourage climbing back up that slippery slope of demagoguery gutter you've fall into.
We can talk issues better without the slime and slurs and labels, wouldn't you say?
I just hope I'm not wasting my time. Casting pearls before swine I think is the operative Biblical phrase.
Now, where's the proof dude? Come on, let's see it! I want to see the proof that 10 years is a "Liberal myth!" Let's see your cards 'cause I'm calling that bluff.

Ok, Ok, Gonzo. I'm in Baltimore for a few days. Chill out, man. I read several periodicals that speak to this issue. Give me a chance to do my fact checking so I don't have to see more "you heard it from Rush" venom.
Notice how Liberals don't often get accused of picking up ideas on Liberal Talk Radio? Dang that free market.
