In her morning briefing with reporters, White House press secretary Dana Perino said the president congratulates Obama.
...
Perino said she does not anticipate Bush will call Obama. She said President Clinton did not call Bush when he clinched the Republican nomination in 2000.
The Democratic Party is happy now. The President has acknowledged the contender.

And Ford congratulates
And Ford congratulates McCain.
He made some interesting
He made some interesting observations. Some of those are things that Obama needs to pay attention to.
Pam Strickland
"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." ~Kurt Vonnegut
"Powerful" "compelling"
"Powerful" "compelling" "maverick" "independent" "a green placard behind him - green representing the future"
That was in response to a question about Obama's speech. Bill Kristol said McCain's speech was an embarrassing disaster, for chrissakes.
WTF?
I didn't watch any of the
I didn't watch any of the speeches last night. No cable.
However, maybe my only problem is that I believe that you can't be completely partisan. I believe you have to look at the big picture and acknowledge the opponent. And in this case, the opponent is McCain. Obama has to take him seriously, because if you don't take your opponent seriously, you loose. See HRC.

Again, why would Harold Ford
Again, why would Harold Ford - unprompted - call McCain's remarks powerful and compelling and praise his backdrop when Bill Kristol - McCain's undying loveslave for three decades - says McCain would have been better off staying home last night?
Forget partisanship, that's just weird. Did Obama not leggo Ford's eggo or something?
Every single commentator I
Every single commentator I heard - except Ford - thought McCain's speech was a disaster. And that includes all the boys at FOX.
Harold continues to baffle me.
BTW, I tried to watch the speech and gave up. Too painful. But you can find it here.
The Clinton and Obama speeches are also on TPM.
Go figure
Gergen liked McCain's and he's one of a tiny handful of Repugs I respect. He's an old time Republican, actually.
