I'm for Padgett
When Mike's in your neck of the woods
go talk to him.
After you do I think you will agree
Mike's the candidate we need to get behind
for Senate.
Yeah, let's talk about Mike
Yeah, let's talk about Mike Padgett.
From this side of the monitor he appears to be running a good campaign and saying and doing all the right things. And he has put together a pretty strong campaign team.
One theory is that his East Tennessee ties help in the general, the thought being that Middle and West Tennessee Dems will vote for the Dem, but East TN Dems and independents might stick with the R home boy if Tuke is the nominee.
I have never met him, so I don't know, but there was something off about Padgett's speech at the Truman Day dinner. It was the first time I'd heard him speak and he said all the right things, but it was his delivery -- something was off. Maybe he just talks too slow.
His other handicap is experience, but Tuke has the same problem. Padgett may have the advantage here, because at least he was elected to Knox Co. office over and over and over.
I agree. I'm having trouble
I agree. I'm having trouble deciding between Tuke and Padgett. Tuke's rep at the Blount County Roosevelt dinner was not good. Padgett's son was great. Too bad the son is not a seasoned politician or he would be on the ballot. At the Knox County Truman Day dinner, Tuke spoke a lot about being a Marine, not much on issues. Padgett mentioned issues. Geez, now I guess I'll have to actually review their stand on issues.
At the Knox County Truman
That was pretty much his public persona in his [unelected] role at TNDP too. Not much to discern there.
I still have to wonder why Bredesen didn't take a public hand in talking Tuke out of being this season's Bryson, much as he did with McWherter and Davis. Or, who knows. Maybe he did. Curious minds, &c.

P.S. I should add that I was
P.S. I should add that I was skeptical about Padgett when he announced and I didn't take him very seriously. He is taking it very seriously, though, and so are a lot of other people.
I have seen him speak as well...
I saw him speak at Calhoun's when he opened up his campaign. I will say that I have not seen him speak since, but this speech was average at best. He just offered up himself as a "change" and rode that out the majority of the speech. To sell someone on the fence, like myself, he's going to need more substance and reasons for him being a better fit then what's already there...
