A friend shared this link just today, enabling us to key in our zip codes to find the cheapest gasoline nearby:

http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx

I haven't personally verified that the gas prices shared by MSN are correct and/or current, but it appears that over 90,000 gas stations are reporting to them daily, and MSN offers the date data were last reported to them, too. Maybe worth a try?

Pretty good tool

I've used it for about a year now, and generally find it to be reasonably accurate.

Not enough variation there

Not enough variation there to make driving much out of your way pay off. Interesting that Kroger and Phillips 66 are at the top of the list selling (last time I checked) real gas instead of lower energy density ethanol.

I noticed that the first list had Weigels as the cheapest in our area. Pilot was #2. They both sell 10% ethanol. That should be noted in these directories.

I usually buy my gas at the local Ingles. They have a deal where you get a ten cent per gallon discount (max 25 gal.) for one fillup in the month following a month when you have bought at least a hundred dollars in groceries using your Ingles card.

I'm sure the grocery prices are adjusted to offset these benefits but it makes you feel a little better at the pump and, even without the discount, their gas prices are about the same as the others in the neighborhood.

Besides, even with my V-6 F-150 pickup, 25 gallons a month has been a more than adequate amount for my needs. I rode the bicycle to crash Tamara's family Memorial Day festivities yesterday, all of 0.66 miles and fueled by a salsa and cheese omelet.

Kroger and Food City have

Kroger and Food City have similar discount deals. It's about the cheapest gas you can find, and bonus you get savings on groceries in the process (as long as you don't mind them tracking your purchases and using predictive modeling to target you with coupons for various remedies for projected health problems caused by your diet, and so on.)

BP, gasohol

I confess I use a BP Visa, which gets 5% in rebate, which is 22.5 cents @ $3.50. So it's a good deal for what I unfortunately have to buy anyway. I'm ticked, though, that they've gone to 10% ethanol and KenJo has stopped giving 5 cents off on Thursdays too. Don't understand that since that's a much smaller percentage discount than they used to give with lower gas prices. Still the BP card is rated good compared to others.

I would use a directory if it helped to avoid ethanol. I've gone 180 degrees on that.
