The Army Corps of Engineers can be held liable for flood damage caused by a "hurricane highway," a navigation channel that is believed to have funneled Hurricane Katrina's storm surge into the city, a federal judge ruled Friday.

Let's hope this ruling stands and the Army Corps of Engineers is held accountable. Ah, if only the COE would spend as much time and money on doing their job right the first time as they do in the courts defending their actions.

Army COE = A joke

I recommend reading "The Storm" by Ivor van Heerden. He goes into considerable detail on the warnings given about the MRGO. He also offers a very nice analysis of failures of the levees, too. It makes me really wonder about the dams outside Nashville that are structurally marginal, but the Corps of Engineers say are "perfectly safe."

Uh

Don't forget that the Corp of Engs. is US. They are a government agency. If they hold them liable, big deal they don't generate any real income. We are the ones that will pay the bill with higher taxes.

In many ways, we the public have created this problem by not holding the elected officials accountable. We continue to elect jerks to office; BTW those jerks are everyone by "your" elected official.

Someday, we really need to get smarter and stop being our own worst enemy.
