I started to write that it was nice to see some positive news in the big paper about our little town after that County Commission debacle, but then I started thinking. Is it positive, or does it again point out to the rest of the world how 'provincial' we are to allow such an injustice to happen in the first place.

And is the shameful treatment of this young man being rectified because you pointed out that it is the right thing to do, or because you exposed our bigotry to the rest of the world?

I was taking the daily New York Times quiz on Facebook and this was one of the stories asked about. I am glad, because I did not catch it when I read the Times online this morning. I am so pleased that Betty's work and Jackie's story are getting wider notice.

I'll take the nice story for what it is. His induction is long overdue and I am pleased that Ms. Bean has taken part. The struggle for all races, creeds, and orientation continues.

Great article for someone who appeared to be a great man. Thanks, Betty for sparking this fire to correct an oversight.
