Don Dare's on the job. WATE reporting the Cracker Barrel at Park West Boulevard (Cedar Bluff) received a 55 (out of 100) on the health department inspection.

Man, I shouldn't read these reports. It makes you want to never go out to eat again. It's been a long time since I've worked in a restaurant, and I've never worked in the kitchen, but I do have to wonder how many restaurants just miss getting bad scores depending on the day and time of the health department visits.

Trust me, in Knoxville we have it good. I used to work in restaurants, both here and in Georgia, and Knox's health inspectors are total sticklers compared to what goes on in other climes. Here, we actually see people getting low scores. The restaurant where I worked in Georgia *should* have gotten low scores, but it never did. I, as a lowly server, couldn't do much about the situation, but I was routinely appalled.

Here, you can trust that places with passing scores actually deserve them. Health inspectors show up with no warning, typically in the middle of a lunch rush. I've seen them stand by the handwashing station timing how long servers wash their hands after dropping off dirty dishes. They take temperatures on *everything*, and they're very thorough.

At the Cedar Bluff location, I noticed that the cashier who took my order also prepared my order. I didn't think the cashier was every to touch money and then food.
