A trade association and a tourism group came up with the Alabama Wine Trail to lure visitors to the state's eight wineries, which produce everything from fruity muscadine and peach wines to more traditional varieties such as merlot and chardonnay.

A Baptist leader in neighboring Chilton County said his group opposed plans for a winery there and doesn't like the idea of luring tourists to his home turf or anywhere else in Alabama to imbibe.

I wasn't raised Southern Baptist but in a sect with almost identical beliefs, and I was taught that Jesus actually turned water into near-beer. Ok they didn't say near-beer, but the wine was non-alcoholic. (I think the alcohol content was inscribed at the bottom of the clay jar).
Yeah, well...
People have a basic natural right to believe what they want to believe about magical invisible beings and/or the existence of some thus-far-undiscovered-by-medical-science part of the human anatomy that continues to thrive after brain and heart functions cease. I don't begrudge the Baptists their beliefs or their rights to voice their beliefs to the public and the bodies politic. That said, I'm sure glad I don't have such beliefs getting between me and fine bottle of Rutherglen Show Tokay.

Soaking a fruitcake in sweet wine or rum or brandy can VASTLY improve the taste... and even if it doesn't, by the time you finish eating it, you won't care.

What a waste of good
Not with this fruit cake. Mom's recipe made a light cake with only pecans, golden raisins, candied pineapple and cherries added sparingly. She then wrapped it in cheesecloth, soaked it in the homemade wine, and sealed it in a tin. In a few days she added more wine.
It was yummy.
Mom gave her recipe to the deacon's wife but, when she made it, it was just not right somehow. She had used orange juice.

If the Baptists, in expression of their freedom of belief, can protest and eventually stop the addition of wineries and advertisement of such, could I therefore express discontent of their doings and eventually get their church shut down? Just a thought.
Answer: Yes.
You'll probably need to begin by campaigning to repeal the first amendment, but it's theoretically possible and certainly well within your rights.
