That's crazy.
How would he support himself if he got elected?
But that's a moot point, because Woodson is a juggernaut and would mortally whip his butt. Nichols got appointed AG and was appointed to the bench before that. He's never had a fight like this one would be. Jamie Woodson's no Jimmy Kyle Davis.

How long have you been around here, Steve?
Woodson has only served one term as a senator, so your contention that she's "really not had a tough race since becoming a state senator" isn't really applicable.
But surely you haven't forgotten her race against primary opponent Billy Stokes in 2004?
Billy is a well-liked guy who had a lot of support from party brass, including the then-powerful Mike Ragsdale.
I'll refresh your memory as to how that race went down -- she stomped a mudhole in him.
Tennessee Senate-6th-R
Jamie HAGOOD Republican 12,657 71.33%
Billy J. STOKES Republican 5,087 28.67
And before that, she had several contested races for the state House. The big boys even gerrymandered her district into Jefferson County and got a popular football coach to run against her to try and rid themselves of her.
She stomped a mudhole in him, too.
I've never been counted among her supporters, but the fact is she's a smart campaigner and is considered a rising star in Nashville. This is a safe Republican district and the notion that Randy Nichols can beat her is about as realistic as thinking that Lamar's going to lose to a Democrat.
Before that election I emailed Stokes and Hagood and asked some deal breaker questions about their stand on 7 or so issues at the time. He responded. She did not. A couple of his answers made him unacceptable for my vote, but he got some respect for his honesty and effort to reply.

was on both host list. Mike Cohen who was PR boy for Ragsdale at the time was a BIG Woodson supporter. One or two others on the staff were with Stokes.
Ragsdale was not on either side. But again with the beanie everything comes back to slamming Ragsdale. Come on beanie, grow up and get over all your hate.

Brian (you may as well sign these little droppings -- your writing/reasoning skills are unique as a thumbprint), once again, you are babbling nonsense and may as well give up.
Ragsdale was a strong Stokes supporter -- ask Stokes and/or Woodson. Mike Cohen took a maverick stand and in fact left the Ragsdale administration not long after this election. Tyler Harber ran the Stokes campaign out of Ragsdale's office, and is listed on his disclosure forms. The caswalker.com Web site was crammed full of salacious gossip about her.
You haven't been sucking up to MRR as much as usual lately. Are you still cheerleading for Cynthia Finch?

Yes, I did help Sen. Woodson on that campaign, and was proud to do so.
But it would be wrong to think it had anything to do with where I worked or who I worked for.
I have supported her and volunteered on virtually every one of her campaigns, from her first run for the House through her last re-election to the Senate.
She's smart, works hard and delivers. She played a huge, pivotal role in getting the BEP reopened, which gets Knox County schools at least $19m a year more in funding because the formula had flaws.
Running against Sen. Woodson is not a wise political decision, but she'll be glad to take them all on. As Betty pointed out, they even redrew her district to try and beat her and she still won. Convincingly.
Your conversation reminded me of the news story during the campaign that some punk kids with spray paint had vandalized some of Billy's signs. The "s" had been painted over and the signs read "Billy Tokes".

Nichols might want to escape his DA job but I can't see him being able to beat Woodson. If he wanted to escape he should have tried to get an appointment to a state job from Bredesen.

This entire thread is just silly. Jamie is an outstanding public servant who just this week announced $10,000 for a greenway project in Halls. She's brought in millions to Knox County with her adjustment of the BEP formula. She's NOT going to be challenged in a Republican Primary. She's NOT going to be beaten in the general election. (Heck, the Crilly primary was 10 years ago, and her first run at elected office...)
Jamie's doing a fine job in Nashville and the folks I know appreciate her representation and service. Jamie Woodson ain't no RHINO.

Jamie Woodson's problem is she's in charge of the state's education committee, but she hasn't put any of her own kids into preschool, packed their own lunch, or reviewed a child's report card. No real world experience, it's all academic looking down on it from above. Same goes for Burchette, they're both creates of their own existence, living in a vaccum, passing laws on things they can't experience on their own.
On the other hand, Haslam has put his kids through school, on through college and he knows first hand the stuff that is important in education.
I doubt he would waste his time fooling with a chinchy state senate seat, he's more than qualified to take Jimmy Duncan out, but I think he's just comfortable being Bill, defining himself, not letting some silly elected office define him.

By that logic, only people with drug/alcohol problems are capable of legislative decisions affecting substance abuse/abusers. Only perpetrators of violence know enough to be involved in decisions about assault and abuse cases. Only seniors make decisions about social security, etc. etc. I don't need my house burnt down to know that arson is wrong.

Then let's see how well she does with the education lobby and the teacher's union in one corner and parents, business, and the roadbuilders in the other corner.

Ms. BBeanster,
Why exactly would/is Ms. Woodson a juggernaut? She's really not had a tough race since becoming a state senator.

Won't happen.
Thanks MS. BBeanster! I didn't know much of that. I knew she beat Billy Stokes but that was all and I really wasn't really impressed with his effects.

Neither candidate is worth getting excited about.
You can see what sort of folks give money to Woodson (and other folks)
Haslam's, various developers, etc.

Might provide an idea what Nichols would be battling

Mike Ragsdale spoke at a Stokes rally at Howard Phillips'auction barn. He was clearly for Billy, as was I. -- s.

Not heard this one.Woodson vs Nichols
Dont see it happenin but who knows.
Jamie's beatin the fool outa the boyz club.
Bratton,Kisbeth & Stokes.
Paul Crilly,in the '98 GOP state house primary,is the only one to get close.
Jamie-3,589
Paul-3,186
Given that..Jamie's first hurdle would be a conservative challenge in a Republican purity primary.
What I mean is that a Republican challenger would run as the real Reagan conservative & paint Jamie as a RHINO.
The conservative primary challenger would take her record as chair of the education committee & ask What would Reagan do??
With respect to Nichols running I havent heard this & next time I see Randy I'll ask him about it.

I can't come up with a single name who could beat her in her district. . . .
I perceive Nichols as way too smart for this.

I've always found it a hoot..that Paul is only
candidate to get close.
No I dont think she will get beat.

Packing lunches, struggling with real world, day-to-day issues.
Yes.
It's good to be Bill Haslam. Maybe he'll let Jimmy Duncan live.

Why would someone like Sen. Mark Norris out of Memphis donate $1000 to Woodson?
