Obama Wins Texas
Submitted by rocketsquirrel on Wed, 2008/03/12 - 2:35pm.
After counting primary delegates and caucus delegates in Texas, Obama wins Texas 99 delegates to Hillary's 94 delegates, according to CNN. (counting superdelegates, Obama wins 109-104.)
Does this mean, in Hillary's eyes, that Texas is:
1. no longer a big state;
2. a state that doesn't matter?
Headlines could also read "Hillary Loses Texas After Caucus Votes Are Counted." But I bet you won't see many like that.

The Obama joke is a "double entendre". Cracker can mean anything you want it to mean. There were a old series of puns jokes with "Polly wants a cracker". It used to be a common name for a parrot who learned to say that particular phrase to get a treat. There were many takeoffs on the old parrot jokes. Hmmmmm. You all don't remember "Amos and Andy" TV and/or radio show and folkses it ain't politically correct no more.

What is the context of the quote? As closely scrutinized as that book has been a racially imflamatory statement would have been all over the place by now. I think your either making s**t up or just plain ol' making s**t up.

Gee, SteveMule, why don't ya get off your butt and look for yourself instead of calling someone a liar. Oh, that's right, you're a f**king liberal who wants everything done for you. Well, Steve-o, the context is racist and bigoted in nature. They are Obama's words describing his own feelings. But since it's obvious you're one of the minions blindly following after your new messiah, you'll need to wait for the Braille edition to come out to check it out for yourself, not that it'll change your tiny little mind.

Racist comment #1:
From "Dreams of My Father." page 229,
Obama: "THERE WERE NO CIGAR CHOMPING CRACKERS LIKE BULL CONNOR OUT THERE." The use of "cracker" was unnecessary and salacious.
Racist comment #2:
From Dreams of My Father, " I FOUND A SOLACE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE
SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHER'S RACE". Gee, who wouldn't after sitting for 20 years listening to hate in that alleged church.

From Dreams Of My Father:
"THAT HATE HADN'T GONE AWAY," he wrote, BLAMING WHITE PEOPLE,- SOME
CRUEL, SOME IGNORANT, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless

Well, obviously you got your "Obama's a racist" talking points from some hate speech oppo research site, because I doubt seriously that you have actually read his book. (I haven't either.) But racial slurs such as the one in the previous comment, especially directed at another participant, are out of bounds.

you know, kinda the whole point of Dreams From My Father is that ultimately Obama explicitly rejects all of the attitudes encapsulated in those quotes as wrong-headed and destructive.
and Bush won in 2000 even though Gore had 350,000 more votes.
But hey.
Have you heard the joke about the political parrot?
Parrot: Barracck! Barracck! Polly want Obama! Polly want Obama!
Pet Owner: Hmmmmmm. Polly used to like crackers.
(I got thousands of 'em.)
How persuasive.
I don't get it.
Evidently Steve's insulting crackers?

In his book "Dreams of my Father", Obama used the word "cracker" on page 229 to describe a white man.
How's that "bridging the racial divide"?

Now I get it. I don't use that word in a non-standard way, unless it's one who breaks into safes.

Umm, Bull O'Connor was a cigar-chewing cracker. And that's about the nicest thing you could say about him.
Only a tarbaby would put it that way...but please don't take my comment out of context.

Rachel,
I have to agree that this was a nice way to describe O'Connor.
