"What a gorgeous day. What effulgent sunshine. It was a day of this sort the McGillicuddy brothers murdered their mother with an ax. Sweet old lady, I can see her now carrying the laundry home on her head." - W. C. Fields
The recordings are not new, I have them on Deutsche Grammophon cassettes dated 1963.
It is said that Sony and Philips engineers developed the CD with the goal of an uninterrupted performance of the Ninth. Now a fifty-dollar iPod the size of a wrist watch will hold all of them with room to spare.
And just as Miss Scarlet had trouble with the Tarleton twins, I'll be awake all night trying to decide just which one is the handsomest.

Thanks so much.
I have been listening for most of the afternoon and evening and am now at the second movement of the Ninth. How could a genius who was stone deaf write such magnificent music?
I can't watch the scene in Immortal Beloved where the he has to be turned around to see his standing ovation without getting misty-eyed.

We had a full day that had a little bit of everything. Just got home from celebrating another friend's birthday to top it off. So we were in some similar spirit, though Ludwig Van was missing. This would also have been a good day for the Pastoral Symphony.
Happy Birthday ! pgs

Happy birthday, redmondkr! We went to a park to enjoy the beautiful sounds of the outdoors. Beethoven would have been a fun addition.
