"The Garden State is the first where text-messaging on the road is a primary offense, meaning police need no other reason to pull a driver over..."

That must be hard to do while driving. Hopefully Tennessee won't be far behind. It seems like our 'driving while distracted' law might invite too much litigation.

"officers will be on the lookout for telltale signs of distracted drivers — slow driving and the “cell-phone weave.”

Reminded me of my typical "what the heck are you doing?" until I finally am able to pass them and see a cell phone stuck to ear.

No real need for texting,

No real need for texting, much less when I'm driving. Don't take my GPS!

hmmmm

Thanx, metulj.

I don't care for the "pull records" thing. It's not some infamous crime that needs CSI Patterson or some shit to get involved.

But it's good to send the message that when one concentrates on anything other than driving while driving, one is an idiot.
Some people, unfortunately, forget the fact that they're driving a hunk of metal that weighs thousands of pounds and kills when not properly operated.

I don't know how the rest of Tennessee is doing, but these bucketheads in Bristol have a real problem with it.
I've seen cops almost kill someone because they were running their giblets when they should have been driving.

It is a real problem.

How can anyone text-message

How can anyone text-message while driving? I have a hard enough time shaving and reading the morning newspaper.

You can do it....

I have a hard enough time shaving and reading the morning newspaper.

It's easy.
Just put one elbow on the sink. It works for me.

How can anyone text-message while driving?

My aunt and uncle, both deaf, do it all the time. When various family members have talked to them about the danger, the response is that hearing people talk on the cell phone. We've pointed out that cell phones are dangerous too. It's damn scary. I know that the distracted driver thing is considered adequate in Tennessee, but I'm beginning to think it needs to be spelled out for some people -- no pun intended. pgs
