The Great Backyard Bird Count was this weekend.

It was a good year at our house.

Heads/Bellies

Sure looks like a red-headed woodpecker instead of a red-bellied woodpecker to this amateur!

Looks like a female Red Bellied..

Starlings have greatly reduced the population of Red Headed woodpeckers. I would really like to see a starling reduction program of some sort.

I still haven't photographed (or seen) a red-cockaded.

I skipped this year's count

Our feeders have been taken over by the most hostile mockingbird I have ever encountered. On the flip side this mockingbird has led to some interesting conversations about he how may have evolved. Did he learn all those different bird songs so he can pretend he has friends or it this just a multiple personality disorder?
