Occasionally I go to the Firefox Extensions site to see what goodies I can add to my favorite browser.

During today's visit I came across one called Access Flickr developed by Hamed Saber who writes:

In my country (Iran), unfortunately, the flickr.com is banned. I'm a fan of that photo-archive website, so I wrote this extension just to help my dear friends who can not access flickr.com from Iran.

According to the description the extension

Bypasses the flickr.com filter in Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, China and other banned countries and places...

Fortunately we don't need to download this (yet) but what is to keep these governments from just banning access to Firefox Extensions?

That is interesting...

Fine peace of freedom work by Mr. Saber.

And believe me, if the house allows immunity for telecoms, open internet is that much closer to Iran-like censorship.
This is the crystal ball through which we attempt to keep politicians honest.
They'd restrict it in a heartbeat if enough precedents are established that they can form an argument.

It would be a bi-partisan effort too.

Yeah, remember when Mr. Bush

Yeah, remember when Mr. Bush got all upset because he couldn't shut down the pesky gwbush.com?

That's when he declared that "there ought to be limits to freedom."

I have some great buttons that I ordered from that site.

Blocking the extension

Censoring is simple for every "big brother", and bypassing it is simpler for us ;)
So don't worry about it!
