After deadline, more apply for (one withdraws from) local appointments
Submitted by Tamara Shepherd on Mon, 2008/02/11 - 6:03pm.
At 4:19 this aft, after last week's deadline, the N-S reports four more applicants (and one withdrawn app) for the vacant commission seats:
—Former state Rep. Steve Buttry for the 6th Commission District, where only Bob Rountree applied by Friday’s deadline. Buttry e-mailed his application Saturday afternoon.
—Roger Kane, who lost the Republican primary for trustee, in the 6th Commission District. He sent his e-mail to the commission office Thursday but an employee said it wasn’t received until after the deadline.
—Former court clerk Caroline Hindman in the 8th Commission District, who e-mailed her application at 4:33 p.m. Friday.
—Knox County Engineering and Public Works employee Martin Pleasant in the 9th Commission District, who e-mailed his application at 4:35 p.m. Friday.
Also today, 8th District candidate Tommy Everette withdrew his name. The winner of the Republican primary, Dave Wright, who faces no Democratic opposition, is seeking the appointment in that East Knox County district.
(Edit: At 7:00 p.m., add Pete Drew in the 1st, Claudia Linse in the 9th.)
