Freddy should have bailed out prior to the initiation of early voting in Tennessee as his name will appear on the ballot and he will have votes to be recorded and tabulated, putting him dead last in the primary in the State of Tennessee. A sad eulogy to what was once one of the most charismatic and enthusiastic political figures in the state. It's one thing to pull the plug prior to your home state's primary, it's another thing to bail after votes have been cast for you. Punditry would deem the death shot to fail to carry your home state in the primary, but the result in these circumstances is essentially the same. Fred is gone, probably never to saddle up the red truck again, destined to a life of Law and Order cameo appearances wondering what might have been if he had jumped in the race when his supporters told him to.

That's a good point. Everybody who ran out to vote early for Fred to catch the early wave just wasted their vote.

and from all indications Howard Baker was hustling behind the scenes only to see how irrelevant he and Big Fred are to the Republican political movements across the country. In my opinion, Howard Baker never assisted measurably in a politcal campaign which was successful and he's got nowhere to peddle political influence like he once did when he was on Ronald Reagan's speed dial, Walter Annenburg's rolodex, and the Carlyle Group's list of approved counsel.

He never seemed really into it, until he was getting out of it...

Yeah, if he'd been giving that speech he gave in SC all along, he might still be in it.
