The Library of Congress has uploaded over 3000 photos taken between 1910 to 1945 to the Flickr.com online photo site. Above is one of about a dozen with a "Tennessee" tag; click through for a slideshow of the rest; they're mostly from the 30s and 40s, about things like the war effort, TVA, and labor. The rest of the photos can be viewed here.

Thomas, thanks. Those are

Thomas, thanks. Those are excellent, and that Alfred T. Palmer was a hell of a great photographer.

I googled up a little biographical info on him:

Glad you like them...

...had a feeling you might, being such a shutterbug yourself! I agree, I think several of them are very, very good photos; pretty interesting connection you found there to another great photographer...

Great shot

The Douglas Dam picture is a great shot, especially with the lighting on the face. I didn't see any other TVA pictures.

click the photo itself for the TN photo slideshow...

...there are a bunch of TVA photos among them -- couple more workers, the generators in the Chickamauga Dam, and some others. I should have been clearer in the post about what to click for the Tennessee pictures.

Several years ago I found

Several years ago I found some TVA photos at the LOC site. Finding them is a bit more complicated than on Flickr but here is a link to a few of them.

I just clicked on "New Search" and entered "Norris Dam" to locate more color photos. There may be more for other dams in the system.

I remember finding a 1942 version of this old mill near Norris that I shot in 1999.

Since their photo is black and white it's in a different collection. Try going to the main page here, then clicking "Digital Collections", then "Prints & Photographs Online Catalog (PPOC)". That will get you to a search field.

Disclaimer: This post was facilitated by an extra large serving of last summer's Highland Manor American Cab Berry (named in honor of the winery's mascot, a Black Labrador called Stonebridge Cabernet)

I was up late last night looking at these pieces and the Flickr site. These are neat. I will have to check out the other site. The museum in CA was beautiful. Then when I got down to looking at all of the Flickr link, I found some Russel Lee photographs. I had taken classes with him at the U. of Texas at Austin. He was a WPA photographer and in WWII. He also did some in this area for the gov. Thanks for letting people know about the site and the other places to ckeck out. Sherrie
