I saw on GMA this morning something about a National ID law that was set to take effect soon. I thought that was just something being debated, but found some info that said it was passed in 2005. A few states have refused to abide by it, they said, and it would effect people at airports. Sounds creepy and sneaky, I had certainly forgot about it. . Do any countries actually have it?

I thought it was just an idea also...

All you have to do is blink these days and whoooops! There goes another affront to our liberty, privacy, and freedom of movement.

Ver ach do papers mein citizen?

Has it really come to this already?

Yep

And if allowed to commence, will only get worse.
Now, once Chertoff is fired, and DHS dissolved, all will be well.

Every American is bound by duty to refuse this ID regardless of the consequences.

REAL ID

...is not a national ID exactly, but a set of standards plus a database at the state level. It's still pretty invasive.

FYI. Tennessee is one of the 17 states that have refused to participate in the REAL ID program. The question is will they apply for a waiver that basically says they need more time, or will they not. If not, Tennessee travelers will be subjected to a second screening at airport starting in May of this year. Could get ugly.

Next we will here... "CAN I SEE YOUR PAPERS" everytime we want to cross state lines...

"Can I see your papers?" and

"Can I see your papers?" and if you don't hand them a case of cigarettes you get detained!

Let's get past the wrapper

I would like to see a major press outlet challenge national leaders the way KNS did local ones.

Some of these things are simply unconstitutional but there is no one (with a pretty enough face* - Sorry Dennis) to challenge in a way the whole public becomes aware. Either that or the MSM is complacent.

We have to ask ourselves, if it's not Lil George's goal to hide from the Constitution, why does he spend so much time trying to change and circumvent it?

* The Stanley Bros sang Man of Constant Sorrow for years. Ralph sang it alone for years. Dan Tyminski sang it before T-Bone Burnett used his version in O' Brother. It was a successful bluegrass song which typically translates to modest national sales. Put George Clooney's face in the video/movie lip-syncing to Tyminski's voice, and you have a platinum CD.

We have been conditioned to packaging to the point content seems to be an afterthought. Remember, Bill was "handsome" and Lil George was somebody "you would want to have a beer with."

The thing about the Real ID

The thing about the Real ID that angered me the most was the need to have one to enter a federal building. So the public buildings that I should have access to, my government which is supposed to be accessible, is closed off if I don't present papers?!

They might as well go ahead and microchip us.

What votes are you looking at? The initial bill was passed unanimously by the Senate in 2005.
