Romney will do well in NH. Michigan will be interesting on Jan. 15. South Carolina as well. The above could flip-flop.

Huckabee's challenge is to use his victory and the attention it brings to convince voters he's more than the 'evangelical' candidate. His supporters think he's more, but can he convince others?

Romney is slick and has money. He'll likely win NH. He's in for the long haul.

Fred? I don't know. He's not been able to move people to his campaign. South Carolina may hold the key there.

I like some things about McCain, but frankly at 71 he seems to be me to be another Dole in '96. Lots of similarities.

Then there's Rudy. He didn't campaign in Iowa, so the jury's still out. He needs a strong showing in NH, Mich or SC. I hear he's cash poor which makes for rough sledding if you're behind.

I was a Reagan fan after watching his speech (as a young man) at the 1976 Convention. That set the stage for 1980. After the malaise of Carter, Reagan captured the heart of America (carrying 44 states). The same can't be said of McCain. An interesting note, George H.W. Bush beat Reagan in Iowa in 1979.

Toby, have you ever met Sen. McCain or Sen. (Bob) Dole? I had the chance to meet Sen. McCain two years ago. Admittedly, a brief encounter. I've met Sen. Dole a number of times. No disrespect to Sen. McCain or older folks in general, but he appears old and gray (and not just his hair). Sen. Dole was personable and likeable in small groups, but that never seemed some come across in the campaign. I fear the same fate would await Sen. McCain. My experience is limited, but I have some first-hand knowledge to compare these two. And, McCain or Dole can't compare to Reagan. He's in a class all by himself. 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall'.

I give Bob Dole credit for one thing. OK, maybe two things.

2. More recently heading up the movement for a long overdue national WWII monument/memorial in Washington D.C.

Sen. Dole's other accomplishment, I think most would agree, is coming home with a broken body and achieving so much.

The Greatest Generation wasn't great just because of its sacrifices during the war, but because of its return and its contributions in post-war America's communities, organizations, and institutions.

I have met Fred Thompson. He's an ass.

I've campaigned with Fred and even went to a football game with him when he ran the first time. I've met and/or talked with him a dozen times or so. Seemed like a nice guy. What is they say about nice guys? Maybe not last, but he's sure doesn't seem to be lighting 'em up. Guess we'll see when things head South if Fred can turn it around.
