To continue some of the sentiments expressed here about the new water tower on the tall ridge in south Knoxville, I humbly submit the following for your holiday enjoyment:

Hall of Fame

Ball of Flame

Ball of Shame

and last, but not least:

Hall of Blame

Actually, it's kind of wrong

Actually, it's kind of wrong to blame this on the City County Bldg. Apparently KUB cut this deal with the developers without informing the City.

That certainly points to the need for process changes, but it also means the "Hall of Blame" should be the old Miller's Bldg.

I guess the C/C Bldg could get a honorable mention for Knoxville's lack of a ridgetop protection ordinance.

oh, and who selects

oh, and who selects candidates for the KUB board? mayor, and council must then approve. Believe that implies a need for a little communication, if not outright oversight.

from KUB's website:

The City Charter requires the KUB Board of Commissioners to submit at least five nominees for each Commissioner vacancy to the mayor of Knoxville. The mayor then selects a person from those names who must then be approved by the Knoxville City Council.

So that puts the blame for this squarely back to the city/county building. And wasn't MPC involved in this? I believe they approved it in September. And where are they located? the city/county building?

The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Some folks are asleep in there, and somebody needs to wake 'em up.

yeah, and first prize for the policy folks not to have a clue about an 18 story structure going up outside their window." If the city administration isn't communicating REGULARLY with outside agencies with enough power to pull off a project that large, we have a more serious problem than I thought.

Heads should roll on this.

KUB's revenge?

Actually, it's kind of wrong to blame this on the City County Bldg. Apparently KUB cut this deal with the developers without informing the City.

KUB is still smarting from the City forcing them to finally start upgrading the sewer system in 2004, after neglecting it since 1987.
