Six junior high or high school students were shot Tuesday after they got off a school bus, and two were critically hurt, police said.
I guess all the kids on the school bus should have been issued concealed carry permits so they could have been armed and thus prevented yet another senseless tragedy.

Armed playground gunbattles? Yeah! Better than MTV
If the kids in that school or any school were armed, there would most likely be more injuries and maybe more dead. Guns in schools would only multiply the violence, not reduce it.
I don't know where this kid got the gun, but parents with guns stored unsafely in the house are often to blame. Teaching your kid that guns are necessary for self-protection not only makes them paranoid, it makes them turn to guns when their minds go off track. It makes sense that kids whose minds are gun-free, who have never seen a gun, or thought of it as a handy thing to solve problems with, might not leap to the idea of a gun as fast as those raised with weapons in the house.
Look at the problem. Most of the shooters in the these massacres were outcasts, misfits, mentally fragile people. Why not work toward creating a society that addresses these problems? Just arming ourselves against them is sooo futile.
Having the right to bear arms doesn't mean you have to bear arms.
Armed playground gunbattles? Yeah! Better than MTV
Carol,
Who is calling for the arming of school children? This was a gun free zone and at last report there were 2 assailants and 6 high school age victims and the crime was being investigated by the Gang Crime Unit. This doesn't sound like a random "massacre" to me. I agree though we need to do a lot of work on mental health, but the mentally ill are barred from buying guns.
"Having the right to bear
"Having the right to bear arms doesn't mean you have to bear arms"
You are correct Carole. There's nothing in the second ammendment that says that you HAVE to carry/own firearms. If you dont want to own/carry one then dont, it's your choice but I choose to carry/own and that's my choice. And it's a choice that the second ammendment DOES give us.
It's called FREEDOM.
You guys sure love to brag
You guys sure love to brag about owning and carrying dont you? In addition to "FREEDOM"...you left out TERROR, 9/11, GOD, APPLE PIE, and FIGHT'EM OVER THERE NOT HERE!... et cetera
et cetera et cetera...
"You guys"
Justin,
If you are referring to me as one of those guys, could you kindly re-read my post and show me where I mention owning or carrying a firearm? Why is it that progressives react with such venom to progressives who disagree with them on issues concerning the 2nd Amendment? It's ridiculous the same thing happens on DU all the time. Pro 2nd Amendment and you are cast down with the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Etc. We are supposed to be the mind open big tent party. Just as long as you don't disagree on this issue I suppose, and we call Bush a fascist.
That's pretty funny
That's pretty funny, considering who you are addressing.
:) I loves me some guns. I
:)
I loves me some guns. I just dont feel the need for self affirmation everytime the subject comes up by stating I own/eat/drink/carry/fondle/love firearms.
Try real hard
Justin,
Take another dose of your meds and sit down, concentrate and try real hard to type out an intelligent response. Never mind go back to watching SpongeBob. That will give your brain all the workout it can handle. Can we honestly expect people to take us seriously on issues when we post responses like Justin's? I'm going back to Democratic Underground. We'll never change East Tennessee anyways.
Instead of assuming Justin
Instead of assuming Justin was addressing you, why wouldn't you read all the comments up to that point. You'd then have noticed the commenter who did indeed mention own/carry in regards to firearms. Then you wouldn't have had to pretend to be a martyr, but that's not as fun.
Take your own advice
If you had taken your own advice you would have noticed that Justin referred to you "guys" at which point I specifically asked him if he was referring to me. To which he made another childish response which can only lead me to believe that he was addressing me directly. Thanks for the advice though. Less hypocritical though if you follow your own advice, but that's not as fun.
From the 1st post in this
From the 1st post in this thread. "I guess all the kids on the school bus should have been issued concealed carry permits so they could have been armed and thus prevented yet another senseless tragedy."
It was meant sarcastically I hope, but there are those out there who are proposing lettng kids take guns to school.
I think that is a really horrible idea.

It was meant sarcastically I hope
You're kidding, right?
Are you telling me this was a serious suggestion?
"I guess all the kids on the school bus should have been issued concealed carry permits so they could have been armed and thus prevented yet another senseless tragedy."
No, I think we're having a
No, I think we're having a disconnect. I was confused that you seemed to think it might be!
Who????
Carol,
You wrote, "but there are those out there who are proposing lettng kids take guns to school." Please enlighten us on who these people are. Links would be nice or at least a referrence to a web site. People on DU all the time make comments about overthrowing this regime but I couldn't say that liberals are proposing an armed insurrection. From the tone here though our insurrection in East Tennessee would have to be an unarmed one. To the topic at hand, no serious organization or person has suggested arming school children and to suggest otherwise is misleading.
