I'm sorry. I know I'm totally biased, but this group just looked so lame. Mike Huckabee ended up appearing like the only sane one capable of complex thinking.
All in all it was a night of tired looking old geezers taking cheap shots at one another. They remained myopically focused on the wearisome old Republican talking points, immigration, no tax increases, crime, guns, abortion, Christianity. Expected answers to expected questions.
Almost every question landed like a live explosive in a minefield and all we could do was watch the candidates try move feebly past it with dread trepidation.
It was a night of cheap shots and rapid back pedaling and little complex thinking.
The one thing that struck me most was the contrast with the Democratic candidates. Every single Democratic candidate looked like a Rhodes scholar compared to this bunch.

McCain
Senator McCain offered a refreshing minute of reason when he denounced waterboarding.
It will probably cost him a couple percentage points in the next poll.
Brian A.
I'd rather be cycling.
Mercifully, I only saw part
Mercifully, I only saw part of this. But I have to say that these guys actually make George Bush look good.
The only moment I liked was McCain insisting waterboarding is torture - although how f***ed up is it that we have actual serious presidential candidates debating whether on not we should use torture?
"The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones." - John Maynard Keynes
I was probably watching
I was probably watching Project Runway when this was on. I'd never vote for any of these yahoos, so why would I torture myself with watching them posture?
I don't know...
I was hoping that CNN had done some research before the hot Giulianni question of the day, but I guess not. It was funny to note that his answer had been debunked on the internet tubes before the debate went off the air.
What would Jesus do about
What would Jesus do about the death penalty?
And all Preacher Huckabee could do was be flippant with something about Jesus being too smart to run for public office.
Now we know why he used to be known as The Rev Gov in Arkansas
What I want is for some one to write up about the rapist that Huckabee-- provided with a commutation. He couldn't get a job in Arkansas, which was a condition of his parole and he ended up in Missouri, where he was subsequently convicted of murdering a young woman and was a suspect in another murder.
Of course, being a good ole Arkansas story there was more to it than even that bunch of nonsense. The original rape victim was a cousin of Bill Clinton's so the guy had claimed that he coudn't get a fair trail anywhere. And, there was the incident were a local sheriff castrated him was he was in custudy -- or some such insanity.
So, the Huckster is getting off light from the national media.
