The November issue of Southern Living Magazine reveals a nice little local secret. You don't have to travel to Italy to get some of the best Prosciutto.

According to the article the best chefs in the South are ordering it as well as country hams from Allen Benton just down the road a bit in Madisonville. Here is a link to their online article. Hopefully it will take you there; some of their online stuff is only available to subscribers.

There was a prior story in

There was a prior story in some magazione I read (it could have been an earlier Southern Living). The chef at Blackberry Farm loved Benton's and hooked the Benton's folks up with the high-dollar chefs and restaurants in New York City, as well as other places. They loved the products and business boomed.

What a tease. In this

What a tease. In this society of instant gratification we have to wait until Jan. 2008 for this delicacy.

***Attention to All Customers: Due to the recent article featuring our bacon in Saveur and other magazines, we have been absolutely overwhelmed with orders. We are temporarily closing our online catalog. We are also not taking phone orders. We hope to resume business by January 1, 2008. We will email a notice to all registered users as soon as we can resume taking orders. All pending orders will be shipped as soon as possible. Please expect a 6 to 7 week delay. Please register if you want us to notify you of resumed ordering. We are a small, family-run business and producing high quality products is a process that cannot be rushed. We are working around the clock to fill all orders as quickly as we can, but some orders may be delayed as much as 7 weeks. We appreciate your business and hope you find our products worth waiting for! Thank you,

I'm sorry. Just as Della

I'm sorry.

Just as Della Reese had her mouth all set for orange juice in Harlem Nights and all she could find in the fridge was a swallow, we'll have to settle for a bologna sandwich.
