Whatever might be said about her husband's politics, Mrs. Dennis Kucinich has exquisitely crunchy tastes in clothes-shopping: she buys a lot at resale shops and thrift stores. I'm never prouder of my wife than when she brings out Baby Nora in some gorgeous piece of clothing, and I think, "Oh gawd, how much did that set me back?" -- and Julie says, "Got that for 50 cents at the Salvation Army -- isn't it beautiful?"
I am not going to call Mrs. Kucinich a trophy wife, a gold digger, or any other derogatory names. She is one impressive lady. My problem is the treatment Mrs. Thompson has gotten from the press, while completely ignoring this little fact. Of course, Fred Thompson actually has a chance at winning the election, and Kucinich has little, but this goes to show how the media will react when dealing with a conservative candidate or a liberal candidate.
"On May 4, Elizabeth Harper walked with her boss into Dennis Kucinich's Capitol Hill office for a meeting and immediately noticed three things. In the reception area, she saw a visiting nun in white robes. In his inner office sat a shelf bearing an illustration depicting "light consciousness" and a bust of Gandhi.
She studied the lean and intense congressman and felt an attraction.
"Now this is an interesting man," she thought.
Dennis had also closely observed Elizabeth, a statuesque Englishwoman with waist-length red hair.
"I saw her eyes go to the light consciousness picture, then to the Gandhi bust, then to me," he says. "It was like one, two, three. That's when I knew."
Within an hour, he called his friend, actress Mimi Kennedy, best known for playing Dharma's mother on "Dharma & Greg."
"I met her," Dennis said. Kennedy knew exactly what he meant. She gave a little yelp of joy. "

Mrs. Kucinich was the perfect mate for Dennis. She'd make a grand first lady. :)
Both of them are exactly what this God forsaken government needs, intellect, vision, kindness, honesty, independence.
It's little more than a shame, or a bad joke, that we have Hillary in the public eye and Dennis and his fine wife being ignored and joked about.
It's a sad testament to just how superficial and confused this country, and the Democratic party, have become.
Nice post.

His thoughts regarding taxation. Hey.... I like the guy. He is filthy rich....still lives in a house he bought eons ago....drives himself to work......doesn't have security personnel .......and isn't a paparazzi whore. Nice guy. His receptionist probably is paid more than most are but the fact that he is willing to step up to the plate and admit that Corporate America has a sweet deal and...... that "He"/"They" need to pay more in taxes than the average Joe is a testament to his integrity and humility. Both of which are lacking in society today.
Corporate America > 17% (Averag Income 75 Milliion)
Receptionist > 32% (Average Income 20K)
Huh?....do the math..........
No wonder everyone wants to deal drugs......geez.
What are your thoughts?

I read this about DK and The Spouse months ago, and while it's somewhat interesting, I'm not at all sure that it means anything.
Once many years ago, when Bill Clinton was running a third race against Frank White for Governor of Arkansas (they'd each managed to unseat the other in the two previous matches), they made their spouses an issue. Frank said his wife would be a traditional first lady. Bill said his wife would continue to offer her talents to the people of Arkansas by helping with various programs and such. This made me think that, indeed, someone should do a story on these two women. When I contacted Hillary, her response was that usually the hard news reporters weren't interested in her, but she did agree to be interviewed for the story.
And, right now, I can't really think of a reason for any of the spouses to be a story except for Bill, Elizabeth Edwards (the cancer thing and her role in the campaign), and probably the Missus Thompson because she's taken on such an aggressive role in the campaign, but that's probably a stretch because Fred's campaign appears dead in the water.

So liitle is known about the woman who is married to a candidate for the presidency. This alone made me want to know more about her. Thompson's wife seems totally unnewsworthy, yet I enjoyed seeing her give live interviews. Did it change my assumptions about her? A little maybe. Inquiring minds like mind do want to know.
I'm sure everyone would like to know what you learned about Hillary when you interviewed her. Care to share?

The interview was in 1986, I believe. Or it could have been 1990. I honestly don't remember, and don't really have time to figure it out. At any rate, she's been interviewed a few million times since then by national publications and has probably talked about most of the same things. I may or may not have a copy of the interview at home. Some of my stuff is still in storage.
For what it's worth, I think that Hillary is smarter than Bill, but not as politically savvy as Bill. However, she's come a very long way in the last 20 years. I think she was probably more leftest than him early on (once she stopped being for Goldwater), but that she's moderated considerably over the years. I think that she is a warm personality in person, but that she's very, very tough when it matters.

I haven't given Mrs. K. 10 seconds' thought. Is there a reason that I should?
My thoughts exactly.

I hate ignoring people and their spouses just because I'm probably not going to vote for them.
