WASHINGTON (AP) — Karen Hughes, who led efforts to improve the U.S. image abroad and was one of President Bush's last remaining advisers from the close circle of Texas aides, will leave the government at the end of the year.

Hughes told The Associated Press that she plans to quit her job as undersecretary of state and return to Texas, although improving the world's view of the United States is a "long-term challenge" that will outlast her.

"This will take a number of years," Hughes said in an interview Tuesday.

Yeah, tell me about it. The next several administrations will have a real challenge cleaning up this mess.

Condi Rice said, "She has done just a remarkable job."

I may need another Pirin tablet.

Classic!

KH's performance and Condi's comment. More great metaphors for the Blackenroniburtonwater administration.

Bye Karen Hughes and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

She has absolutely no respect for truth. To her it's all about word choice and the affect her carefully written texts will have on people too naive to know better. No matter how many people's deaths should be weighing down her concious, I doubt it will bother her one bit. Loyalty comes above all else with Republicans these days. In that department, Mrs. Hughes deserves a Medal Of Dishonor.

One of the most appalling

One of the most appalling legacies of this administration is the miraculous way these criminals took the almost universal good will displayed for us after the events of 9/11 and turned them into almost universal hatred.

And for this Condi is proud?

Brownie

I didn't realize Karen had even come back from the self-imposed rest she took a few years ago. Also, alot was being said Sat. morning about FEMA's fake press conference, even mention of punishment, and then the talk just stopped.
