A lot of time was spent going over the same old points---healthcare, the Iraq war, who voted this way or that and when.

It's getting a bit painful to watch Obama struggle to keep up with the candidates who are so obviously more experienced than he is--when they point to their own records he has nothing to respond with other than his "intent". I really like Obama, but he just doesn't seem to have the experience needed to run the government well. On the other hand he did put Hillary against the ropes a few times.

Edwards was the clearest and toughest. Slowly he seems to be differentiating himself that way. He also pinned Hillary down on several issues. He made her get to the point where seemed to get edgy and uncomfortable. This seemed a good strategy for Edwards.

Hillary is still heads and shoulders above the others when it comes to confidence and polish. She did get a little rattled though when Edwards and Obama double-teamed her and got rough. Some of her answers clearly were dodges. I think she showed more vulnerability tonight than she has in the past. Her saying she would give licenses to illegal immigrants won't appeal to conservative Democrats.

Richardson made some good statements. He kept pointing out that he had a lot of diplomatic experience.

Dodd said he would not give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. that will appeal to some voters who are worried about that.

Biden seemsed somewhat subdued for a change. He did get in a few strong jabs at Guiliani.

Kucinich as usual said what most Democrats are really feeling. He left no doubt the country would operate totally differently if he got elected. He sounded like Wyatt Earp begging to be sent into Dodge City.

Two funniest moments?

Kucinich trying to admit he really might have seen a flying saucer. he knew it would across goofy, but like George Washington, he could not tell a lie. Does this mean he'd make a good president?

When Barack Obama was asked if he thought there was life on other planets, he shifted the focus to this planet. He said "there might be other guys on the way", but that he was just trying to deal with life on this planet. It got quite a chuckle.

Acording to an MSNBC text-message poll Obama won the debate with 29%
Hillary was next.

I missed it, but I hear

I missed it, but I hear Biden really stuck it to Guiliani - something along the lines of "Rudy only needs 3 things to make a sentence - any noun, any verb, and 9/11." I sure hope that guy ends up with a post in the next cabinet.

Oh, yeah that was a great one!

Biden is argueably the most knowledgeable when it comes to the inner workings of the government, especially when it comes to national security issues. Sometimes he seems as disgusted as the American people are, and he has a way of always saying it like it is. I'm not sure how diplomatic he would be though. Richardson has had a lot of success diplomatically, and he kept pointing this out. It would really help if we had a president now who would listen to other leaders and have some negoiating capacity. But could Richardson beat the Republican nominee? Could he get out an enormous impassioned vote?

You forgot...

Hillary...doing an excellent immitation (?) of a proper little NeoCon, preparing for the general election. Has any one ever wanted the job so much and at such cost in honesty and lives?

They did make Hillary look like the hawk she really is...

Her voting for the PKK thing in Iran was a huge mistake. After you label someone a terrorist and back GW Bush on yet another start to engulfing the world in another war, it gets mighty hard to negotiate with those same guys. Hopefully we will handle the Iran problem through talks and deft leadership, not by threatening to kill them. I think it was Richardson who suggested we steer them away from nuclear energy all together by returning to a non-proliferation treaty. The Iranian government is afraid we will invade them, so they're preparing for a showdown. I can see why from their point-of-view this makes perfect sense.

I would really love to see a

I would really love to see a Richardson/Kucinich ticket. I thought that Richardson really shut everyone up when he pointed out that a Senator has not been elected since 1960 and , I think 8 out of 10 (?), of the last were governors.
The noun, verb,9/11 comment was the highlight of the, otherwise slow, night.

Russert ambushes Kucinich

Just watched this clip from HuffPo. Russert not only asked a chickensh*t question, but then followed it with a sucker punch lie. But DK was in no position to know it was a bogus stat (that 14% of Americans have seen UFOs, though it's actually more like 34%), so was made to look foolish.

Russert's a dick. EDIT: And DK's answer was just fine except he could have challenged Russert's number instead of throwing up his arms.
