Still sorting through photos of our New England trip, and I think this is one of my favorites so far. This is near Stockton Springs, Maine, next to an old church that is now an American Legion post on US1/Highway 3 between Belfast and Bucksport along Penobscot Bay.

I see we vacationed at the same time.We almost made a New England trip too. Instead, we flew to San Francisco and drove up 1 and 101 to Seattle then flew back to La. The redwoods are possibly the most incredible place I have ever seen. Almost could make me retire there instead of the Appalachins. Almost; too expensive out there. I think I saw my first Bald Eagle. Female at about 150 yards, no time for picture or glasses. Ranger in Mt. Rainier said it might have been. And, to close this travelouge, Pike St. Market, in Seattle, contains more characters per square inch than Ft. Sanders, Montrose and the Capitol in Austin. After my wife and I spent an hour and a half walking through the market we spent two full hours parked outside watching (very strange) people walk by.
Penobscot.
I love that name.
Nice.

Those of us who have eagles as yard birds may forget what it was like to see one for the first time.
I still get excited every morning when mine fly by.
