I hadn't seen this video. It's well worth watching.
How the hell did this guy lose the presidency to Bush?
Oh, nevermind.

Thanks for that link......I am going to check the TED sight often now.

Trying to not make matters worse.

15 ? I can give you two more..

Shut off power to the Gore and Edwards residences .. that'd be a heckuva start. That's if you buy the jive Gore is pushing.

Irrational denialism

Calloway,
Why the hell do you deny global warming? Do you deny evolution too? I can't for the life of me understand the appeal of global warming deniers - except among those who profit from unlimited hydrocarbon production and the Chinese. You are precisely the person to whom Paul Krugman speaks today: Gore Derangement Syndrome.

(link...)

Or as Kevin Drum puts it, people like you are akin to six-year olds on a temper tantrum who can't understand why Gore doesn't live in a cave.

You don't have to love the man's politics or personality to recognize that global warming is real and is, to a large extent, human-caused.

what a "Good German" you

what a "Good German" you are, Calloway.

You know...If we heard the scientific arguments for and against human caused climate change, we would hear 400 scientists urging us to take action versus 1 lonely voice shouting, "Go back to your homes, citizens. The authorities have it well in hand."

Thank you, Exxon Mobil, and a shout out to your helpful lackies like Calloway.

exploding Sun

Actually, Calloway, a global cooling theory is exactly what you would need to have some credibility. That old idea competed with global warming and lost, but at least it was an idea. You are not advocating any ideas, just destruction of ideas. You are promoting a void of knowledge.

If there were climate researchers with sound models arguing that air pollution will cool the planet or that the atmosphere can absorb all we can produce, you would have something to support. Scientists have tried to develop alternate models along those lines, and they failed. Because the various competing notions have all failed, there is now consensus in science that the models showing climate change are the best we have.

The closest thing to a competing theory in today's scientific world is the idea that the Sun is heating up. Millions of years of historical data show that variations in Earth's climate are always attributable to earthbound changes, either irregularities in our spin and trajectory or catastrophic events like volcanoes erupting or comet strikes. Through it all, the Sun's output has been essentially constant. If it is actually heating up now, that is far more alarming than the idea that we are producing too much air pollution. Is that your counter to Gore's "alarmist fluff," or are you merely offering a void?

If calloway cared about

If calloway cared about stuff like human nature, he would acknowledge that there is unlikely to be anything a young and upcoming scientist could do to advance their reputation than to successfully challenge the status quo of information and the scientists who are behind it. It is what makes science better than the reich-wing echo chamber in which calloway apparently lives. It isn't that bad ideas or hypotheses can't happen, it is that they will continually be challenged, even long after they are accepted "fact", some young gun who doesn't know any better will attempt to make his bones by tearing it down. If she is successful, good for her, good for us.

As to Gore's extravagant living conditions and large carbon footprint, how much of it was already in existence when he/we became aware of the problem? How much better is it with the steps he has already taken? How does he compare to others of his wealth status, neighborhood, political stature?

It seems odd that for reich-wingers, everything is stark black and white except science, logic, and reason.

Gore's extravagant living conditions and large carbon footprint

Oh spare me. This is one of the lamest of all the Republican slurs. Gore is not some money-sucking lavish hedonist like their own Jim Baker, who is now reformed, but selling his jail-time experiences to audiences too dumb to see he is still trying to swindle the sheep in his flock.

The only large footprint Gore leaves is one smack dab in the soft ice of the Artctic where thousands of species both animal and human just might survive because of his whistleblowing on the damage corporations, gluttony, and Congress are doing to our environment.

PLEASE, LEAVE AL GORE ALONE! ALL HE DID WAS TRY TO SAVE THE PLANET AND YOU BASTARDS JUST KEEP HARPING ABOUT HIS LARGE FOOTPRINT. AL GORE IS A GOOD GUY! HE HAS A WIFE AND KIDS. HE LOST THE ELECTION TO A NUTCASE BUT HELD HIS HEAD HIGH. PLEASE LEAVE AL GORE ALONE!

I can almost see the You Tube video...

All in all, one factor is

All in all, one factor is unknown, precipitation. Gee a little water and no one knows how it plays into these scenarios. In other words, till we learn how all the factors work together, it is a guessing game and science is not about concensus. In fact, concensus once suggested the world was flat but I think most got beyond that as I'm assured we will together make our ways thru this also.

Ummmm, thinking what was the hottest year we know of? When was the coldest year we know of? Geez, all that happen some time ago, well before our so called huge carbon foot print. Oh well, it is fun watching some get all bent out of shape over such trivia. By the way, the Oceans are still alive, amazing they were suppose to be dead twenty years ago!

WhitesCreek's picture

Very misleading, IA

The scientific consensus was exactly what eliminated the flat earth theory up until Exxon-Mobile paid a bunch of pr hacks to write the drivel that confuses people like you.

The earth is still not flat, fish populations have collapsed in many parts of the oceans, among other serious problems, such as the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico.

I liken your arguments to standing under a refrigerator which is being lifted several stories up the side of a building with a rope. When the rope breaks and the refrigerator has fallen a third of the way down toward your head...You announce that there's no problem with the rope because the refrigerator hasn't hit yet.

Factchecker's picture

What nonsense. You don't know what you're talking about. If you wanted to learn, discuss, debate, cite some sources, etc., then Bring It On. Otherwise you're just making an ass of yourself.

Note to IA,

Here is an example of proper citing so the group doesn't have to just depend on your word as a statement of fact:

"There are 178 apparent languages on our planet with over 1000 dialects. It's amazing we communicate at all."*

Maybe yours is one of them.

*Of course these figures are from the 1980's so your mileage may vary.
