Heard Bill Scher on Sam Seder's Air America show correcting right wing spin and lies about the SCHIP program. Here's a summary.

Probably the best point he made on the show was that Republicans want SCHIP to fail because it proves that government health insurance programs work and are effective.

Yep, that's the not-very-well-concealed Republican plan, as right-wing humorist P. J. O'Rourke once put it: Republicans like to say that government doesn't work, so they get themselves elected and prove it.

The mess that Bush & Heckuva-Job Brownie's FEMA made of New Orleans is probably the most obvious example. I've actually heard conservative pundits say, "You don't want the government that botched the Katrina situation to handle your health care."

The obvious reply to that statement should be: "No, we need to start electing competent governments, unlike Bush's."
