Lots of drama at the WaPo today
Submitted by R. Neal on Fri, 2006/03/24 - 5:02pm.
First, Chris at Facing South ripped into Ben Domenech, the new conservative blogger at Washington Post, for having a McCarthy Moment. And in the process, Chris details the ugly history of the FBI's efforts to paint the 60s civil rights movement as a communist plot.
Then, later this afternoon, Ben Domenech is out at the Washington Post. Not for calling a late civil rights leader a communist, but apparently for plagiarism.
And to top it all off, our favorite Tennessee wingnut blogger applies for Domenech's job in this shameless bit of self promotion (scroll down in the comments):
Mr. Brady,
For four-plus years I wrote a weblog of center-right opinion, news analysis, media crit and original journalism, at my own eponymous blog site, Link...
Center-right may not quite describe me accurately. Pragmatic libertarian conservative is more like it.
I am a redstate resident (Tennessee) and a journalist by training, and more than a decade of experience, and I would love to replace Ben Domenech on the WashingtonPost.com site. I've never committed plagiarism. And because I'm not located "inside the Beltway" and have never worked for a Republican political campaign, I'm not likely to just repeat GOP talking points.
Center-right? Hahaha. And what is a "pragmatic" libertarian anyway? Somebody who woke up one morning and realized he wouldn't personally be able to build that interstate across town to his office? And eponymous? Wow! That's just the kind of pointy-headed, ego-driven writing the Washington Post is looking for to replace that Domenech character, I'm sure.
(Thanks to gttim for the tip re. our pal Hobbs, for old times' sake.)
Yet another conservative blogger who doesn't allow comments that don't jibe with his message/delusions on his blog.

Anyhow, Bill probably needs a job or something. He'd be a plagiarism free blogger for the WaPo. That'd be a plus for them. He'd also be illogical, nasty and disingenuous. He has the credentials they are looking for, methinks.
As for Coretta Scott King being a "Communist," they are getting that line right off FOX. Hannity recently muttered something about that around the time of her death, IIRC. The old "The FBI was on the right track. It just wasn't politically correct to expose King and his associates as Soviet Union dupes. The FBI has evidence." I really think that Wingnuttia has it origins in the Conspiracy Theorist nuttery of Corsican Mobsters whacking JFK and Roswell Alie n Spaceships and what not. Long years of treatment with Haldol are in order....

"I won't just repeat GOP talking points -- I will regurgitate them whole."
"I won't just repeat GOP talking points -- I will work them into a strong lather, building the froth vigorously before rinsing *and* repeating according to label recommendations."
"I won't just repeat GOP talking points -- I will wine them, dine them, I will bring them flowers, and thoughtfully caress them."
"I won't just repeat GOP talking points -- I'll sleep with them under my pillow so that they're so fully inculcated into my being that you won't be able to tell where I begin and where GOP talking points end."
"I won't just repeat GOP talking points -- but if you're looking for a red-state rent boy, please please please please please please give me the job; a WaPo by-line would buy me the credibility that I've been unable to garner as a 'pragmatic libertarian' blogger."

R. Neal,
For two and a half years I have been been a prolific blogger at the analytical, center of center, highly informative, entertaining, and award-winning weblog Resonance.
Analytical, center of center, highly informative, entertaining, and award-winning might not describe it quite accurately. Let's just call it the best website in the world.
I am a Knox County resident, a blogger by training, with over three decades of viewing experience. I would love to become a paid blogger on the Knoxviews.com site. I rarely commit plagiarism. And because I don't live in that morass known as Blount County and have not blogged in any other county, I promise not to promote the talking points of any other community.
I aint never been nowhere or done nuthing so, caint nobody accuse me of anything. Plus, I have many unfounded and unsupportable opinions that will please others like me and make them think your paper is "HOT".

Jeez Len, that's almost exactly what you said when I announced I was campaigning for the job of the departing Metro columnist for the Memphis paper a coupla weeks ago.

That's just efficiency. With only one reason, I can ignore vast swaths of the media, and concentrate on What's Truly Important. Like how many games will the Cardinals be ahead when they clinch the NL Central title this year?

God, Hobbs is an ass.
Though the one upside to him replacing Domenech would be that it'd give me one more reason not to read the WaPo's blogs.
