Annual Unity Day Campaigns Kick-off Set October 18, 2007

Knox County Democrats and Democratic candidates will gather at Beaver Brook Country Club to kickoff the election season on Thursday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m. Proceeds from the $25.00 per person celebration will be used to finance activities to increase visibility of the Democratic Party in Knox County including the upcoming 2008 local, state and national races. Local candidates have been invited to speak.

The program will include comments from each of the declared candidates in the City Council and Knox County races. Democratic candidates who have filed a campaign finance statement, or,have secured a petition from the Board of Elections will be invited to speak. To date, 16 candidates which have met the criteria have been invited to speak.

Candidates will tailor their remarks to answer the following questions:

1. What do you consider the number one issue affecting Knox County?
2. What will you do to specifically address this issue?
3. If you are elected, what will be your top three goals?
4. What steps will you take to ensure you meet your goals?

In the spirit of celebrating being a Democrat, three key Democrats in the past leadership will be recognized.

Representatives of the national political campaigns will be available to answer questions and have campaign materials. Local candidates will also have tables with information, bumper stickers, T-shirts, stickers and other items.

Alex Smith, First Vice Chair and Unity Day Chair said the committee expects 250+ to join together to celebrate being a Democrat in Knox County. A BBQ supper will be served.
