Lumpy Lambert faxed a letter to various media today, outlining his ideas about reforms for local government. Actually, they aren't bad.

He's proposing 4 monthly meetings of County Commission -- one for agenda and public forum; one for zoning; one for committees and the fourth for the monthly meeting (minus zoning).

It's funny to hear commissioners complain about not being able to discuss potholes.

In south Knoxville that would have to be the parking lot of the Bi-Lo. One thing I learned during this lawsuit is that that's the place to be in SoKno.

Something definately needs

Something definately needs to be done, there are far too many issues to take care of at just one monthly meeting. Even the city has two meetings a month and the county is far larger and takes care of a lot more municipal issues than the city.

I just read in the paper

I just read in the paper where Lumpy said the verdict is "a victory for democracy." I do believe I threw up in my mouth just a little.

Still it's better than what I heard Scott Moore say about the verdict on tee vee yesterday in two short clips: 1) "They's (sic) been a lot of damage done here", and 2) "I'm not saying anything until I have all the facts."

I presume the second means until Shurf Tim tells him what to say.

You mean Food City? Are there any Bi-Los left?

Ain't that the truth. I don't know any native Knoxvillian over the age of 40 who refers to James White Parkway as anything but the Business Loop.

I may have mentioned this

I may have mentioned this before, but I call the mall close to me East Town even though it was already Knoxville Center by the time I moved here. I don't think I've ever heard anyone call it by it's newer name.

I think people have trouble

I think people have trouble with the "Knoxville Center" moniker precisely because it's not. My spouse calls it Knoxville Offcenter.

The comment of Lumpy's I

The comment of Lumpy's I liked in today's paper was the one about them not being "bad people." They just had a different opinion of what the sunshine law meant. You see, there is no right or wrong anymore. One person's wrong opinion is as valid as any "law," probably one written by a liberal lawyer. This has become one of the most common of Republican talking points.

People whose job it is to know better and don't are woefully ignorant at best. Wrong and maybe criminally so, at worst.

I assume you would rotate the Shoney's of choice per district.....is there a Shoney's gap we have to deal with first? I'm not sure there is a Shoney's in Farragut. Possibly a workshop is needed for an alternate location.

What about the Shoneys on

What about the Shoneys on Lovell Road? That's dead in the middle of the 5th Dist. and barely more than a stone's throw from Farragut proper.

There is a school auditorium in every district which would have more than enough room, but without the buffet dinner.

More than one meeting a month (splitting out zoning/beer board) and having meetings at night where working people could attend would be a good start. Smart Commissioners would get on that bandwagon now.

Smart Commissioners would

Smart Commissioners would get on that bandwagon now.

Most commissioners have been talking about this for some time. Example: holding Finance and Intergovernmental on the same morning has been a desaster for some time and is a topic of discussion every month.

Problem is that these types of changes will turn the elected offices into practically full time jobs (or, lifestyles, as some have put it). Just because there's a greater quantity of work doesn't insure that there's a greater quality.

And the position of county mayor needs to be rolled into the legislative body so that this position also falls under the open meetings act. If not, we've got the same problems on the horizon with just a different cast of characters.

The Lump

As a resident of this idiot's district (no, I didn't vote for him), I call on "Lumpy" to resign his office. He is nothing short of an embarassment to the good people of Powell and the rest of our district. He won't resign and we'll have to vote him out in 2010.

The Lump needs to stick to selling salvaged cars from his nasty little car lot. Come to think of it, the same cars seem to always be sitting there?

Lump, I won't forget.

Bi- Lo

Bi-lo is the name of a gas station/convenience mart/deli at the corner of John Sevier & Martin Mill.

I guess the SK times will have to do a stakeout there if they want to get the political news. I suggest going in disguise and carrying one of those eavsdropping devices you see on Tee Vee.

I don't guess it would work if the power brokers went out to the parking lot beside the busy truck traffic.

But at least they'd be out in the sunshine! Does that count as a defense?

Road names

I don't know any native Knoxvillian over the age of 40 who refers to James White Parkway as anything but the Business Loop.

I drove to town from East Knox the other day and ran into a street named "Support Our Troops." It's down by the Coliseum.

So we've got roads named Ed Shouse, Brownaires, Hall of Fame and out in Halls, Shade Weaver Road -- named for the patriarch of the folks who cut Wanda Moody's lawn.

One time Mary Lou Horner renamed the old Commercial Park Drive in honor of the Regal Entertainment chief -- Mike Campbell Road. We had a street party on Campbell's birthday and Bruce Wuethrich showed up with a green and white street sign, as I recall. Underneath the road name it said, "Dead End."

The dead end part came down that night.

And Campbell was so embarrassed at the whole thing that he insisted Knox County rename the street yet again and it's now called Regal Drive. Those of us who live here, of course, still call it Commercial Park Drive. -- s.

Lumpy's car lot

interesting. Is that the auto dealer, the scrap metal yard, or the auto parts yard? The one at 3319 Clinton Highway? The one with the storm water permit?

Quite an enterprising address.

volzfan59's picture

I was talking about....

I was talking about his nasty little car lot by the old Airplane Service Station on Clinton Hwy. That dump really takes away from the looks of the old service station.

The "Lump" of crap doesn't own Lambert's Auto Parts. It is owned by a guy with the last name of Johnson, at least it used to be.

Resign Lump, your an embarassment.

I won't forget.
