The screeching of the Christian right, the shrill alarmism from cultural conservatives regarding everything from sex and drugs and music to gays and nipples and creationism, the rejection of science, the attacks on women’s rights, the abuse of the environment, all the way up to the bleakest and ugliest manifestation of all, a brutal and unwinnable war — taken as a whole, these can, if you so choose, be seen as merely the embers of a hugely failed... worldview.

I hope he's right...and this country realizes what this means.

Unfortunately...

the people who most need to read this never will, because it's published in a news magazine that they will NEVER pick up because it's a "gay" magazine...or so they think. And they don't think that there is anything they may have been doing wrong in the first place.

Hmmm... Am I learning something or is this just a reference to SF in general?

Iraq, BushCo, the American right and all the sanctimonious bleakness surrounding them as merely the inky remnants of a passing disease, the last, vicious gasp of a dying ideology, the violent struggle of resistance that always erupts before any great cosmic shift.

Great article. Wish I could be that optimistic re "inky remnants".

Yeah...SF in general.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard some folks say things about San Francisco papers and magazines to the tune of, "Oh they are all about the gays there anyway...I would never read that stuff."

Hi, Tali :)

Good point. The "Gay" area of Frisco takes up what? About six blocks? Yet to Righty the whole town and everybody that has even visited it is "Gay".

There's more Gays in Johnson City than in Frisco.

But that's how Righty dodges factual argument. If it makes sense or presents facts, it's "Gay".

Uh oh...I just got back from Johnson City. Does this mean I'm...

No way, Dude! I even like Nascar. I do admit to wondering about my "stance" though...

Let me get this... er.. straight. There are more gay people in Johnson City (pop 55K) than SF (770K)?

OK let me be juvenile here - I suppose a gay man looking for a small town might be drawn to a place named Johnson City.

There are areas I would avoid if moving there. I'd heard rumors that the sewer backs up on Long st. in Johnson City!

Is it a new day? Can this be the new quote of the day? I have to admit though that I think it may have tied for both best and worst.
