Knox County Commission on Trial

Submitted by D Mac on Fri, 2007/09/14 - 10:39pm.

I must admit that I am watching and reading the news reports about the trial with an amused fascination. It was fun to see the sparring between Moncier and Scoobie. There has been some interesting new tidbits of information, such as the fact that Lumpy is the only commissioner that has failed to provide his cell phone records and that he now has to get his own attorney.

We can wonder if they are going to make him the scape goat but maybe he really was key in orchestrating the events leading up to Black Wednesday.

I found this amusing note from Gene Patterson's blog:

At tonight’s Bearden-Farragut football game, Moore was on the field at halftime for a check presentation. When he was announced, rather than cheers, Moore was soundly booed by the crowd.

Perhaps this trial may finally convince Knox Co. residents of the need to change the faces of the commission.

I've been watching too...

It appears that Scott "Scoobie" Moore is trying to play like Gonzales, only he is no Alberto Gonzales and he doesn't have the President of the United States to back his play when testifying.

Greg "Lumpy" Lambert appears to be filling the I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby role here, only HE isn't Scooter Libby and doesn't have Dick Cheney to back his play either.

It will be interesting, to say the least, to see how they fare in the near future.

canary in a coalmine

If the Hutchison Republicans so intent on driving Ragsdale from office over his misspent thousands were to take a similar interest in the misspent billions of Bush, there would be some chance of America returning to its throne as the beacon of freedom and democracy rather than decaying into yet another dim-witted kleptocracy serving financial elites.

Unless Lumpy did some nude sunbathing in the Bahamas, the glare of sunshine off his ass could very well make the reflection of corruption off Bush's cheerleader cheeks slide past glaring into blinding and cure another cohort of Republicans of their gullibility, assuming we haven't already plumbed the unlit depths of their blind loyalty.

Rikki: if everyone in the country flipped the treasonous BushCheney war criminals the bird, perhaps we could restore this country to the position of honor it deserves, rather than swimming in the cesspool of Republican corruption!

Poster: How bout them vols?

Rikki: Vols? You mean the vols who "volunteered" to serve in this criminal war? Or the vols who volunteered to be war profiteers, sucking the tit of the HalliPentigon, while sinking the rest of us into the mire of the Bush-Cheney kleptocracy?

Poster: Um, nice weather the past few days?

Rikki: Nice weather? Are you f'ing kidding me? There's drought in the south, hurricanes in the gulf, and all of them are the result of greenhouse gasses emitted from the methane-bloated arseholes of the bloviating cows in the whitehouse, gorging themselves on our tax dollars, while...

Nothing but respect rikki - you know that. I just find it amusing how you can take just about any topic and turn it into a BushCo rant. :-)

thank me later

No doubt I deserve such mockery. Half the time I'm mocking myself as I go. Nonetheless, I remain utterly baffled by the blind spot our nation has for this President. It buffoons me.

Still, the moment Hillary Clinton has the powers Bush stole from Congress and the courts, Republicans will start talking 180 degrees from where they are now, and they can just raid my material rather than trying to think up their own. Speaking of which, your post is a good imitation, thanks!

Hey, does anybody know what

Hey, does anybody know what happens if the trial is still going on on Sept. 24 when Commission is supposed to meet? Will they have to cancel the meeting, or will the judge recess the trial for the day?

manna from heaven

In a way, Jan 31 was a gift to the citizens - regardless of the outcome of the trial. The appointment process itself did not get our attention when it was used for one position at a time. But Scooby was too dumb to stay under the radar.

If, say, Josh had been the only appointee, well there would have been some folks shaking their head, but 12 outrageous appointees and subsequent rehiring of the outgoing officeholders all at once! Yes, that was the wake-up call we needed to rethink, not only the appointment process, but also the consequences of nepotism, conflicts of interest, and public office as a "lifestyle".

And the bonus was that the Commission, under fire themselves, outed Raggedy Mike and his outrageous abuse of power! Now if voters will just remember Jan 31, they can send a message to all officeholders who have violated the public trust and treasury.

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

Commission meetings

Rachel:

There are committee meetings this Monday, Intergovernmental at 8:30 am and others to follow (I may be wrong about the exact times). I have not heard a word on what the court will do and if regular commission business will continue on the 24th. There are important issues at hand, storm water for one, and I would hate to see that held up.

BTW, I hear Scoobie is trying to maintain his role as Chair of Commission and may still have enough votes to get it at the meeting on 9/24. But hopefully there is someone wise and capable that will come forward and snatch the title away from him. After his testimony this week, the commissioners that vote for him as chair again will look quite foolish. But then again, what would you expect of all those appointed during the fiasco? It will be great fodder for those opposing them next year, as if they did not already have enough.

[i]BTW, I hear Scoobie is

BTW, I hear Scoobie is trying to maintain his role as Chair of Commission and may still have enough votes to get it at the meeting on 9/24.

Actually, the Commission already voted on the question of Chairman for the upcoming year earlier this month at a special called meeting. Scott Moore was re-elected unanimously.

I wonder why that got no

I wonder why that got no press coverage. Sorry to hear that they "overwhelmingly" voted him in. I don't think they had a full commission at that special meeting, at least two were out of town.

No takers

Who would WANT to be chair considering the circumstances?

KNS

No explanation of why the KNS didn't cover Scoobie's reelection (or the meeting notice). Frank Leuthold was nominated but declined. Scoobie was elected by acclamation.

Just guessing, but I'd say the boys had some pre-meeting conversations about this. At least ol' Frank can still count to 10. -- s.

I wonder why....

Wonder why the commissioners for Bearden/Farragut (not sure which venue) didn't do the check presentation? Possibly Scoobie's attempt to put himself out there, since he's running for clerk and all. Hopefully the crowd's reaction is a sign of the times to come.

I got some flyer from the

I got some flyer from the 4th district commissioners.

They were having a thing one morning at Bearden Elementary to come out and talk to them about what's important. I pitched my flyer.
