Karl Dean wins the mayoral election in Nasvhille. New blood from the North.

Boston Red Sox fan, who grew up in Gardner, Mass...

28% voter turnout, 13% early voting with 15% voting on election day.

Complete coverage from The Tennessean.

Congrats to the Citizens of Nashville.

P.S. I do believe East TN needs some new blood.

Oh, watch out for new,

Oh, watch out for new, expensive mass transit centers (Clement Landport).

Karl Dean

He'll be an outstanding Mayor. He's a good guy in government for all the right reasons. He wants to make a difference.

What does that *mean*?

That is Politics 101, i.e. it's boilerplate, effortless rhetoric. Everyone claims to want to make a difference. Everyone claims to be in the hunt for all the right reasons. I've met lots of "good guys" in my day.

All that might be so. So what?

This is what has bugged me about Dean. He's certainly savvy and good on camera. I don't know what sort of public servant that he will be. I admit, too, that it bothers me greatly to see the enthusiasm with which Dean was greeted by the Belle Meade GOP set.

I'm fine with new blood; I just worry about new blood for the sake of new blood. Remember, Bredesen was an import, too.

So what did Bob Clement

So what did Bob Clement offer? Old blood? Old/no ideas?
"Imported" mayors is SOP for Nashville, isn't it? I don't know a lot about Bill Purcell as mayor, but he was a very fine legislator, and I would happily support him for statewide office.

Those happen to be the same facile questions I was hearing out of every Dean supporter.

I'm not saying I was fond of Clement and his "gee shucks" approach, necessarily. I'm saying that I was never convinced that Dean was anything other than an empty suit himself.

I sincerely hope that he's "committed to making a difference" and that he's "a good guy" and he's in this "for all the right reasons." Blerg. This is what's supposed to convince me that he's all that much better than Clement?

I was waiting for a more persuasive, compelling portrait. None ever emerged.

When She was elected UT student body president..her campaign knocked on doors in fort sanders.Never happened before or since.I can see her running for office in the future.

Here in Tn we do elect family to office..Baker,Clement,Gore,Jim Cooper,Duncan,Ford...& McWherter's son is looking at running for senate next year.

Karl Dean for Governor?!..When you're mayor of music city..it's gonna come up.

Mayors/Governors

Where have you gone, Bill Boner? A metro turns its lonely eyes to you...
