In case you hadn't heard, State Rep. Rob Briley (D-Nashville) was arrested for DUI after a high speed chase.
According to the report, when officers approached his SUV with guns drawn, he got out, reached back in, got his drink and finished it "at gunpoint". Extra points for style, I guess.
We hope he's OK and gets any help he needs.

Idiot
What an idiot. What the hell compels a guy to speed up in that situation?
Or reach back into his
Or reach back into his vehicle while cops are holding him at gunpoint?
From the news reports it sounds like his troubles have been ongoing for a few months and he is dealing with some serious issues. It's a miracle somebody didn't get hurt or worse in this episode. I'm surprised that all of this is only misdemeanors at this point, according to the reports.
We hope he's OK and gets any
We hope he's OK and gets any help he needs.
Hey Randy, who's the 'we'? You carrying around a mouse in your pocket? Or is does this refer to the investigative squad of the local liberal blog?
It's the voices in my
It's the voices in my head...
But seriously, here's
But seriously, here's Wikipedia definition of the "editorial we" which we sometimes employ in our writings:
The editorial we is a similar phenomenon, in which editorial columnists in newspapers and similar commentators in other media refer to themselves as we when giving their opinions. Here, the writer has once more cast himself or herself in the role of spokesman: either for the media institution who employs him, or more generally on behalf of the party or body of citizens who agree with the commentary.
It sounds goofy sometimes, but other times it somehow sounds better. (Just about every unsigned KNS editorial adopts this usage, even though McElroy wrote it.)
And sometimes it actually referrs to "we" as in the Mrs. and me, but not necessarily in this case because she's actually working and stuff but we're guessing she shares the sentiment although we're not speaking for her.
but we're guessing she
Nice touch!
Adrift in the Sea of Humility
Help. Help and jail.
I hope he gets help, too. Alcoholism and depression are very serious maladies, and he'll probably need a lot of help to recover from them. I wish him all the best in those battles.
That said, he chose to drive in an impaired state, and endangered a lot of lives in the process. I hope's he's held legally accountable for that, and isn't allowed to drive again for a good long while. He should have hired a driver or taken a cab if he really needed to tie one on.
But style points for draining the cup in front of the cops, and for his choice in hooch too:
An empty bottle of Maker’s Mark and bottles of medication were found inside the vehicle, according to the report.
Hmmmm??
CBT, Are you hoping he DOESN'T get any help?
KNS editorials
(Just about every unsigned KNS editorial adopts this usage, even though McElroy wrote it.)
Actually, he very seldom writes the editorials. He may or may not be a member of the editorial board that makes the decision on the stand taken in the editorial. I think he is, but insomnia fog makes me cautious in saying for sure. There are four or five or them, and from what I hear they actually talk and debate. The writing is done by Hoyt Canady and one other person, as in the editorial page editor and either associate or assistant editorial page editor.
And, yes, I do believe that "we" hope Briley is ok and gets the help he needs.
