An Associated Press-Ipsos poll looks at who is reading, what they're reading and breaks readers down into several catagories. I thought this reference to Southerners was interesting. (link...)

"People from the South read a bit more than those from other regions, mostly religious books and romance novels. Whites read more than blacks and Hispanics, and those who said they never attend religious services read nearly twice as many as those who attend frequently."

Huh?

People who never go to church read bibles and romance?

I don't get that one.

I don't go to church and I read constantly, but not religious stuff. There's Science News, Sierra, The Nation, Natural History, Audubon, Paddler, Outside, etc. etc.

I don't go to church...

but I do read religious stuff all the time. Buddhism, Taoism, New Age, Paganism, Native American religions, Islam, Hinduism... you name it, I read on various religions all the time. I find different belief systems interesting. However, I don't think that those types of religious readings are what folks are talking about in this poll maybe.

Me too...

I'm very fascinated by all the different religions. One of my favorite books is "Hero of a Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell. I know just what you mean. Not a religious book in the way the poll meant it.

T...

You also seem to be an enlightened Pastafarian.

Me, I'm still not totally comfortable with those noodly appendages.
