The Tennessean notes a bill to allow the FBI to conduct NICS in Tennessee instead of having the state bureau of investigation do it:

Background checks on firearm purchases in Tennessee would be performed by the FBI instead of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation under legislation headed for a vote in the state Senate.

Currently, the TBI charges gun dealers a $10 fee to do a background check on customers, while the FBI does it for free through the National Instant Background Check System, or NICS.

That $10, of course, has always been passed on to the buyer. I'd like to see it pass.

Just out of curiosity, why

Just out of curiosity, why do you favor the change? To save $10? To have less of a background check? Is Tennessee less competent than the Feds? Or what?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a live free or die kind as well as cold dead fingers as long as the idiots are under control (not in control). Not that I go hunting anymore, but I would definitely not go hunting with the likes of Cheney.

Save the $10, of course.

Save the $10, of course. TN, being pro gun, passed the law to get around the brady bill's required waiting period for background checks. Since then, the feds went to instant checks. It's served its purpose and isn't necessary.

And I'm pretty sure the TICS and NICS probably ran the same sort of check so I doubt it's an issue.

Can't we all just get a long gun?
