I've been following this
I've been following this hate crimes legislation on another site, and I'm constantly amazed that so many self professed Christians are so ready and willing to lie about this. The fact is, if they claim they aren't lying, then they are admitting to being ignorant.
I think "stupid" about covers it
Violating the free speech of fundamentalists? Are these Memphis City Churches folks stupid, or are they depending on their website readers to be stupid?
Their site links to the full text of the House bill...AND THE BILL SPECIFICALLY SAYS THAT IT'S NOT AN ATTEMPT TO CONTROL EITHER SPEECH OF THOUGHT.
Here's the pertinent bill text:
SEC. 8. RULE OF CONSTRUCTION.
Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by the free speech or free exercise clauses of, the First Amendment to the Constitution.
