Today was great at lunch at WDVX. RB Morris and Hector Quirko were at their best. The crowd was into it. And RB's new CD was there. Madeline Rogero and Bill Lyons were sitting together in the front row acting like big buddies and this led RB to joke with them read a great poem on Knoxville in not so good days. Maybe it is just me but I think we are at a better place as a community than we have ever been.

It was a great show.

RB Morris and Hector Quirko were terrific. RB played a number of cuts I had not heard including some from "Empire." We, along with the rest of our entourage of bureaucrats, had a great time and enjoyed the ribbing. Our only regret was the we had to leave 10 minutes early for a "meeting." Yesterday Kelley McRae played for the first half hour and was absolutely spellbinding. I still can't believe that we get free concerts at lunch time. Good fringe benefit!

RB

RB put on a great show. There were several big wigs there today, in addition to the usual hippie/retiree crowd. I can't say enough about how cool it is to have lunch concerts. Preservation Pub is putting a a b-day party for Jerry Garcia tonight that I look forward to checking out in a couple of hours. Jerry would have been 65 today. Downtown is pretty much rocking most of the day and night now, but the big Haslam banner on the Ely building is still a little scary looking.

It was

a great show and a packed house. I saw Hector later at the Tomato Head and asked him if Hecter Quirko was his real name.
He said "Yes, how could I make up a name like that".

For those who missed or didn't hear enough Hecter yesterday, The Lonesome Coyotes will be playing Alive after Five at the Knoxville Musuem of Art, Friday, Aug 3 starting at 5:30 pm, not 6:30 as reported in Metro Pulse.

I thought the Basement Gallery was cool in the Old City, saw a show there for the first time last night. All of the first Fri. was nice, including Knox Voice, except for some place on Gay St. that was advertised as a First Fri. event but had a guard at the door only letting VIPS in, kinda strange.
