I just heard that the people or person who filed the civil rights law suit about the library won their case. I'm supposed to be getting more info this evening, but this is a reliable source.

Keep us posted
Please keep us posted if you are able to confirm that rumor. I have tried to keep up with the latest information regarding this issue but was not aware that the matter had been settled.
settled perhaps?
civil rights cases take years to complete so it most likely is that there is some kind of settlement on the issue or it passed the merit test and is proceeding. Again- that takes years.

Library
We've talked with both the Law Director and the County Mayor's Office and cannot confirm this rumor.
Greenspace adjacent to the Burlington library is a great idea, but Knox County should tie up BOTH parcels before buying one. You really don't want to put a squirt park next door to the Lariet (sic) Lounge. -- s.
right
like they'd tell you, right?
like they'd tell you,
like they'd tell you, right?
LOL.
Too many secrets?
Is not secrecy central to government? Do not politicians do their best to disguise sources of income and financial support to avoid revealing loyalties to an individual or special interests or a particular group? Are not those loyalties and deals made in exchange for promises of one kind or another? And if they were to be made public, wouldn’t they destroy the illusion that elected officials are responsible to their constituents …or that they made policies on issues based on reasoned judgment?
Doesn’t secrecy allow politicians to explore bargaining positions without committing themselves publicly? And so what if deals are made in secret? And what if the secret created a much needed solution? Or not?
Who doesn’t get all hot and bothered with a good sumptuous secret? But what if the secret itself might be a fabrication and meant to be leaked to mislead and misdirect?
Are we a culture that is addicted to "secrets?"
Hmm.. I guess the thing was...
From what I can gather the library was found to have violated civil rights by the Secretary of State and Title 6 Commission. They sent documents stating that to the Justice Department and the library's assets were frozen. This could be old news. I just hadn't heard that before.
