Is anybody watching this show that took over The Sopranos timeslot on HBO?

I'm still trying to figure out what it's about, but it's interesting because you never know what's going to happen next. (I thought this week's Sermon in the Parking Lot was going to be the end. But I'm also not sure if it really happened or what.)

The one thing I'm pretty sure it's not about is surfing. I think I've decided that it's about Redemption. And that's not something you got from The Sopranos on Sunday evening. (Not that John from Cincinnati can quite compare to The Sopranos, at least not yet anyway.)

So, are any of y'all watching it? What do you think?

I've tried, but just can't get into it.

I think I'm in Sporanos withdrawal.

I've been watching Big Love, though; and it's starting to grow on me a little.

Do you think this show with its Mormon polygamy weirdness will hurt Mitt Romney?

I liked Big Love from the get go, although I'm still trying to figure out why any guy would want THREE wives!

The Mrs. didn't like it at first, but it's growing on her, too.

At first I thought it was kind of sweet in a weird sort of way, but it has taken some creepy turns that might make it even more interesting. And the acting if fantastic.

The whole insight into the Mormon deal, if accurate, is fascinating. You wonder if it's more like "the compound" or if there are more of them out in the real world practicing the old ways, or it's a little of both?

I can't imagine polygamy is that widespread outside Utah, and I always thought it was a mostly thing of the past, so maybe people won't make that connection to Romney. Who knows?

It would be interesting if they worked that into the show somehow. I'm guessing Romney probably wouldn't like it, though.

I like "John From Cincinnati" pretty well, but I sure didn't at first. I watched the first episode, and then let the next several pile up in the ol' DVR. Watching a bunch of episodes in a row was a much better way to go about it, for me. The rhythm and weird nuances hold up much better that way.

But the show is so strange and requires so much of its viewers that I don't see how it can last.

I've heard the "surf noir" books by Kem Nunn (the co-creator of the show) are really good.

"Big Love" drags a bit for me, but I like it all right.

I remain wistful for "Deadwood."

We tried watching it but couldn't make it past the first episode...I still miss Rome and Deadwood. My wife got me to start watching Big Love...I'm hooked on that show now.

I am hooked on this show

I am completely hooked on this show. I have had to watch each episode at least three times and see something new in each viewing and still think I have most likely missed some major points.

The concept is so intriguing that I have to see where Milch is heading with this story. I was a big fan of Deadwood and I love seeing those great actors in these new roles and the dialog in JfC is often very "deadwoodian".

If this show only goes for one season, so be it. I am glad to have it when it is here.

I read Knoxviews almost every day but have never felt I needed to comment until now. Anyways...

Oh absolutely, looks like a Deadwood reunion. I'm expecting Ian McShane to come in with more prolific curses.
