I read the article. This struck me:

They were wildcats living in the Fertile Crescent--the area extending from the Eastern Mediterranean around Turkey and down into Mesopotamia.

Ohmygawsh, I think my cat is Al Qaeda.

Come to think of it, she does seem to be kneeling on my rug with a rapturous look on her face quite often.
