The race for the super delegates is on.The Hill reports Clinton,Obama & Edwards have whip organizations to drum up super delegates in the House.
The super delegates were put in the Party rules after the'72 convention. To prevent a McGovern takeover from happening again.
These delegates are not elected in the primary/county-congressional district convention system.
They are elected officials & former elected officials & are automatic delegates. There are 850 super delegates.
This is how these things get wrapped up so quick. A candidate gets within striking distance of the 2500 needed to win.
Boom Super Delegates step in; Game Over.
By the way Richardson is up to 10% in Iowa & N.H. Has Great web site.

Super, schmooper - we'd settle for a plain vanilla delegate
This system stinks to high heaven. I'm deeply disappointed to see that Lincoln Davis is on this automated list.
Here's what it's like in the rainbow ghetto section of the Democratic Party in Tennessee:
National Stonewall Democrats and the Democratic National Committee GLBT Americans Caucus are asking that you take a brief moment to take action by contacting the Tennessee Democratic Party.
Under new rules adopted by the Democratic National Committee, state parties have the mechanism to adopt numerical goals for LGBT Delegates in their delegate selection plans for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. These goals attempt to correct under-representation of the LGBT community in party affairs and ensure that they are engaged in the presidential nomination process.
Tennessee is one of only a select few states that has never sent an openly-LGBT Democrat to a national convention - no delegates, alternates or committee members - ever.
Why You Should Care
Establishing baseline goals for LGBT participation isn't just about sending openly-LGBT delegates to a national convention. These goals require state parties to interact with our community. This means that, for the first time, the Tennessee Democratic Party will be required to engage our community at upcoming Black Prides, pride festivals, community forums, Stonewall Democrats meetings and other events.
Remember that in 2006 the Tennessee Democratic Party refused to support efforts to defeat an anti-gay amendment to the Tennessee Constitution. As we move forward, we now have an opportunity to help the state party begin to stand up for Democratic values, instead of running from them.
The Problem
The Tennessee Democratic Party has published its proposed plan, which is now open for comments and suggestions before the final version is adopted. The Tennessee Democratic Party plan does not include goals for LGBT Americans. The party has also indicated that they do not intend to create such goals for the LGBT Community. This would make Tennessee one of only about 4 states to submit plans without goals for LGBT Americans.
Take Action!
Take a brief moment to email the Tennessee Democratic Party today and urge them to establish numerical goals for LGBT Americans. Your comment will be entered into the party record and considered when final revisions are made. Remember that this is a positive opportunity for the Tennessee Democratic Party to better engage the LGBT community. Be positive in your comments, but very clear in the action that you want the party to take.

Sample Comment (For greater impact, please RE-WRITE TO MAKE THE LANGUAGE YOUR OWN):
I would like to comment on the proposed 2008 Delegate Selection Plan. I am concerned that no numerical goals have been established in order to represent the Democratic electorate of LGBT Americans. LGBT Tennesseans have served as a constant resource for Democratic campaigns in our state, yet our community is not acurately reflected in the affairs of our state party.
Tennessee has never sent an openly-LGBT person to a national convention. This dismal record means that the voices of our families continue to be limited by the actions of the Tennessee Democratic Party, and this record is one that we should be actively trying to correct.
As a Tennessee Democrat, I urge the Tennessee Democratic Party to establish goals for LGBT Democrats. Please revise the proposed plan to reflect this prior to submitting the final version to the Democratic National Committee for review.
Sincerely,
- My Name as a Tennessee Democrat

u could do it this way
We have 4 delegates in the 2nd district
How about this:run 4 LGBT American delegates
for every candidate.
Then turn folks out at the County Convention
for those delegates.
Caucus before the Convention starts.
See whats up.
Then turn em out again for the congressional district
convention.
If you've got the votes
never know;could elect all 4 delegates.
Lincoln Davis is a ex-officio delegate.
Cant do anything about that per rules.
I don't like super delegates either;would rather all
85 tn delegates be choosen by the people,in the primary convention system. But we got what we got.
Dont cuss the dark;light a candle
Read the rules
use the rules
start now
Does anyone know where these
Does anyone know where these folks are on issues?
I'm not as concerned about the electeds; I'm more interested in the party-bound DNC superdelegates like Gray Sasser, Inez Crutchfield, Will Cheek, etc. The latter category don't have voting records to check.
(I had forgotten that Jerry Lee was a superdelegate. He's the head of the TN AFL-CIO and is genuinely the kind of Democrat you want representing you.)

see how they have voted @ the DNC
I have no clue about Gray Sasser
But I met Will in '84 when he headed up
Gary Hart's campaign in tn.
We both stuck with Hart against Gore
in '88;Wanted a Hart-Gore ticket.
till a little monkey bidness
hit in May of '87.
