They're here.

Thaks for all the beautiful bird pictures.

I once had the incredible experience of being eye-to-eye with a hummingbird. I can't even describe what I saw in those eyes. It was a rare mystical experience. I think Baltimore Orioles have been visiting my feeder here in North Knoxville.

Birds through the window

The indigo bunting turned into a blue grosbeak after studying my bird books.

Same rare bird visits

My wife took that, but she got the camera out to try and get pics of our RB Grosbeak(s) (we have either one or two) or our Indigo Buntings, of which we have at least 4!! We've gotten some poor pictures of the IBs, and if we can't do better, maybe I'll post what we've got.

I don't think we have ever seen an RBG here and only once saw one IB at our feeder several years ago. We put the hummer feeder up a week ago and got the first visit last Saturday, I think.

Sorry our photography is not in Randy's league, but it's a fair shot of our feeder!

Congrats to those in Knoxville who participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count this year. Knoxville won in the state contest for the most bird lists of any TN city. Now, I think they should change the criteria on that because I am sure Friendsville would have won if it were done on a per capita basis.

Update- just saw our first hummingbird of the season. There are a pair of Brown Thrashers in the garden! I love their songs! Sure wish I could tell one warbler from the next. Warblers are the very hardest to identify.

I had an indigo bunting at

I had an indigo bunting at my window feeder a couple days ago, a rare sight. He skedaddled before I could get the camera and haven't seen him since. The hummers have emptied my feeder twice already this year, along with a little help from the chickadees who like to partake of the sweet stuff too (I removed the bee guard). Wonder if the late freeze has affected the natural food supply for the hummers.

Poor snake! Just tried to

Poor snake!

Just tried to take a picture of a black and white warbler but the danged thing won't hold still. got a really cool shot of the branch it used to sit on, though.

Rose Breasted Grosbeaks....

If I knew how to post photos I would put up my photo of a pair of Rose Breasted Gosebeaks that visited my feeder this morning. Late yesterday we had three males and three females at the feeders. Awesome!

Right now there is a hawk circling the house with a snake in his talons.

Yesterday in Cades Cove we had a Barred Owl fly in and perch right above our heads.

As of yet we have had no hummingbirds.....
