A few more photos after the jump...

Abstraction: Martins and trout feasting on the hatches.

Bulletin board outside Reliance Fly and Tackle.

We weren't the only ones enjoying a beautiful day on the Hiwassee River.

This guy, too. They had the water turned off all day, and with the weather it was perfect.

I can't think of a better
I can't think of a better way to spend it. Other than that, I kind of agree with Alex and Sarah. Google's logo for the day is tragically appropriate.
Was on Norris myself. Great
Was on Norris myself. Great photos up there, the last one could be in a brouchure!
I've decided on a new
I've decided on a new approach to fly fishing. I'm going to cut the hooks off the flies.
I will be satisfied just standing in the river, becoming one with the river and the riffles and pools and getting into the mind/instincts/reflexes of the trout for a while.
That part is very theraputic, and the only reason I still do it from time to time. I always hate taking the trout off the hook. Their eyes look up at you, saying why did you do this to me, mister? I didn't do anything to you. Please let me go!
When they rise to my offering, I'll get just as much pleasure from having "fooled" them with my expensive fly rod and so-called "superior brain." If they hold on for a defiant second or two and strip some line off my reel, that will just be a bonus.
That way, I don't have to torment the defenseless, innocent trout only to release them back into the river to wonder that the hell that was all about.
(The Mrs. says in my defense that I'm educating the smaller ones to not make that mistake again.)
Besides, you can't eat them any more anyway because of mercury pollution, and the size limits pretty much prevent you from keeping a mess for dinner.
You could always just try
You could always just try filing the barb off the hook, too. It's not as hard on the fish, and it takes some skill for you to "land" it.

What a great sentiment. I always thought that instead of hunting, I would just like to go sit in the woods and catch images of animals. The animals can go on about their business and I get to keep a great picture. The dogs don't seem to understand the whole idea, however.
Their eyes look up at you, saying why did you do this to me, mister? I didn't do anything to you. Please let me go!
I totally agree.
